Scone Cup Tips
Scone Cup tips include looking for proven Group-class milers with winning form over the 1600m or further and those with a good lead-up run from the autumn.
The lower-weighted runners make a good tip in the Scone Cup as since Speediness (57.5kg in 2013), Dr Drill (56.5kg in 2020) and Sky Lab (57kg in 2024) are the only Scone Cup winners to carry more than 54kg to victory.
Any in-form horses from the Snowden stable are also a nice Scone Cup betting tip as Peter Snowden has prepared three winners since 2010 most recently Pajaro (2016).
The boys hold the advantage and usually dominate Scone Cup tipping with Sedanzer (2018) the last mare to win.
2024 Scone Cup Tips
Our Ladbrokes’ insider Scone Cup 2024 betting tips and race selections will be detailed below the week of the race so stay tuned for the gallopers to back and sack in the winter showdown.
- To Win: #8 Welwal ($10 at time of publish) – BET NOW
Tricky race for the punters, but at double-figures at time of publish Welwal looks a touch of value from the Waller stable. This consistent five-year-old is a proven miler looking fit after back-to-back thirds in similar or tougher grade races. Third to Another Wil in Doncaster Prelude (1500m) from out wide two back before rounding out the Hawkesbury Cup trifecta behind Just Folk a fortnight ago under a half-length beaten. Good gate, Jay Ford rides, up in weight but still in with a shot.
Scone Cup Form Guide

In 2022 the Scone Cup winner Rustic Steel went on to win the inaugural The Big Dance at Randwick on the first Tuesday of November, while the third place-getter Atishu further franked the form returning in the autumn of 2023 to win the Group 1 Queen Of The Turf Stakes (1600m).
