A-League Week 5 Preview

Week 5 of the 2015 A-League season gets underway with a rare Thursday evening fixture between Adelaide United and Melbourne City at Cooper’s Stadium.

In a round that will only see four matches contested owing to the FFA Cup final, Sydney FC and Brisbane Roar face off in a top of the table clash at Allianz Stadium on Friday night.

We’re offering the best odds on the widest variety of markets for Week 5 of the A-League!

Adelaide United vs Melbourne City

Adelaide United appeared to have returned to competition in good touch this season when holding Melbourne Victory and the Wanderers to gritty draws first-up, but have since dropped right off the radar and are rooted to the bottom of the ladder after heavy defeats to both Perth Glory and the Brisbane Roar. Melbourne City appear a club with ambition this season and snapped a disappointing winless streak with a 3-0 demolition of the Wellington Phoenix last weekend. The fact this match is being play at Cooper’s Stadium could go a long way towards saving Adelaide, however Melbourne City may prove a little too classy.

Sydney FC vs Brisbane Roar

In what is always a well-fought fixture, first-placed Sydney FC host second-placed Brisbane in a blockbuster on Friday night. The Sky Blues began their campaign with a draw at home but have since been unstoppable; posting three consecutive wins including highlighted by the 3-1 defeat of the Central Coast most recently. Brisbane were unlucky not to take anything from their week 3 match over the ditch but responded in style 3-0 over Adelaide last weekend and will be confident they can match it with Sydney on Friday. FC deserve to be favourites at home and in current form, but Brisbane are sure to lay a great account for themselves and a draw seems a likely outcome.

Newcastle Jets vs Western Sydney Wanderers

In what could figure as the most well-contested fixture in Week 5 of the A-League, the in-form Newcastle Jets return to the Hunter to face Western Sydney, who posted a much-needed win over Perth in their most recent outing. Many tipped Newcastle to finish bottom of the league this year but it seems no one told the Jets, who have flown the gates and sit third overall, only on goal difference. Western Sydney have taken a few weeks to find their feet but appear as though they are capable of a competitive season once more. David Carney has been a revelation for the Jets and will have to lead from the front if his side is to continue their winning ways.

Central Coast Mariners vs Wellington Phoenix

Winless since week 1, Central Coast are arguably offered their best chance of a return to form against the similarly-positioned Wellington Phoenix at home on Sunday afternoon. The Mariners have not really looked a team capable of competing for 90 minutes at all this campaign, and enter the match having conceded eight goals in their three most recent fixtures. Wellington currently sit mid-table but have performed terribly on the road so far and may be low on confidence following their 3-0 defeat at the hands of Melbourne City win week 4. The Mariners currently feature as $2.75 outsiders and we’re confident they can salute in front of the Central Coast crowd.
