The return to Perth and the traditional program of three qualifying heats leading into the Grand Final has been a roaring success and we are set for a ripping 2015 Inter Dominion Final at Gloucester Park on Saturday afternoon.
Dual Group 1 winner Lennytheshark is set to start the race as a clear favourite, but there is still plenty of talent spread right across the field and we have analysed the chances to every single runner in the field.
Lovers Delight has been the big market mover in Inter Dominion betting markets following his victory over Lennytheshark in a qualifying heat at Gloucester Park on December 4 and his chances were improved with the inside barrier draw. Connections have made it clear that they will not hand up the lead in the early stages and that is sure to lead to some fireworks. $7 seems a fair price, but he needs to be included in the exotics.
Waylade has been a consistent performer without looking overly impressive during the Inter Dominion Series to date, but it is fair to say he did not have a great deal of luck last start. The inside draw helps his chances, but he still looks a touch on the skinny side at $9.
Lennytheshark is a clear favourite to win the Inter Dominion Final and it is easy to see why. He won his first two heats of the season in fairly impressive fashion and he was very brave after receiving a tough run in transit on the weekend. He never runs a poor race and with any luck in running it is tough to see him getting beaten.
Philadelphia Man has been in outstanding form during the Inter Dominion series to date and he looks like the main danger to Lennytheshark. His first two wins had plenty of merit about them and he was another horse that had no luck last start. He has a certain toughness about him and he may be worth a saver if he gets out to any longer than $6.
It has been a while between wins for Our Blackbird and he has not been overly impressive during the series to date. Stuart McDonald’s best play may be to try and put him in the race early, but I can’t have him and he is a deserving outsider.
He did not have a great deal of luck in the first two heats, but he showed plenty of early speed from a good draw to record a good win last start. The middle barrier draw really doesn’t help his chances and the quote of $41 seems fair.
The evergreen veteran remains a very consistent performer, but there are questions marks over whether he is still capable of winning at this level. From this draw it is very tough to see him winning, but there are certainly worse place bets in the race.
Devendra has been the slight surprise package of the series to dare and his win last start was extremely impressive. The draw does not help, but he has shown a degree of tactical versatility and has the ability to finish over the top of his rivals. The $8 seems a fair price, but you can’t rule him out completely.
My Hard Copy
My Hard Copy is capable of brilliance on his day and his past two runs have been rock solid, with his placing behind Lovers Delight and Lennytheshark more impressive than his victory at Bunbury. In saying that, he probably lacks the class to win this race and he doesn’t really appeal at his current quote of $15.
He had excuses in the first two heats of the Inter Dominion, but he produced a fairly flat performance last start and he is a horse that doesn’t really win out of turn. Would need much more than $21 to entertain a bet.
Major Crocker (1st Emergency)
Major Crocker is seen my many as a rising start, but even if he earns a start this does seem slightly beyond him at this stage of his career.
Blazin N Cullen (2nd Emergency)
Blazing N Cullen is an inconsistent performer, but he did show a level of toughness when second behind Philadelphia Man at Bunbury. He does not look likely to earn a start, but could perform fairly if given a chance.
2015 Inter Dominion Final Tips
Lennytheshark from Philadelphia Man, Devendra and Avonnova
Lennytheshark has a class edge on this group and from the draw he is clearly top pick. Philadelphia Man will take advantage if he doesn’t show up and you have to respect Devendra based on what he has done this series. Avonnova will add some value to exotics and I expect the veteran to run a big race.
