The 2016 Inter Dominion Final had drawn a corker of a field and the Group 1 event at Gloucester Park on Friday is set to be a highly-competitive affair.
Hectorjayjay dominated the qualifying heats and he will start the race as a clear favourite, but there is plenty of talent in this field including defending champion Lennytheshark.
Will Hectorjayjay deliver favourite backers a victory or will there be an Inter Dominion Final upset? I have analysed all 12 horses in the field and you can find my thoughts on each of their chances below.
Bling It On
Bling It On raced made a slow start to the qualifying heats, but he won well at Bunbury and toughed it out to finish third last start. He is capable of matching it with the best horses in this field on his day, but there is a doubt over his ability to run out this trip strongly. He is not without a chance, but I can’t get him as short as his current price.
Run Oneover was beaten by Hectorjayjay in his first qualifying heat and he went on to win well at both Bunbury and Gloucester Park. He makes his own luck right on the speed and will probably take up the running, but he is another horse that is a question mark at the trip. He will have every chance, but I am happy to take him on at the current price.
Our Jericho does not win out of turn and it is easy to see why he is one of the extreme outsiders of this field. Does not have the class to win a race of this quality.
There is plenty of intrigue over the physical condition of Lennytheshark after he suffered a foot abscess last week. All reports from trainer David Aiken indicate that his horse has come through the issue well and if Lennytheshark goes into this race at close to peak fitness he will be right in this race. He is tough as they come, proven at this level and has no problems running out the distance strongly. $4.80 could be a real luxury come Friday night.
Joan Of Arc
Joan Of Arc raced consistently during the qualifying heats and it is fair to say that he was a touch unlucky behind Hectorjayjay last start. There are other horses that I would rather support, but I expect him to run better than his current odds suggest.
Franco Nelson has been a touch outclassed during the Inter Dominion to date and in my opinion he should be double his current price.
Smolda is the value runner for mine in the Inter Dominion Final. He goes into this race off a victory in the final qualifying heat at Gloucester Park and he is one horse that is proven in this distance range. He will need a touch of luck in running, but he does have early speed and he is a much better chance than the current price suggests.
Bettors Fire beat Smolda to take out his open qualifying heat, but he was disappointing at Bunbury and did not have a great deal of luck when he returned to Gloucester Park. He is another horse that is better than his current price suggests and he has every possible chance to sneak into the placings.
Hectorjayjay is a clear favourite in Inter Dominion Final betting markets after recording very comfortable victories in the three qualifying heats. There is no doubt that he is the form horse in this field, but his chances in the race took a real hit when he was drawn on the outside of the front row. This obviously makes his task much more difficult and in a field of this quality it is extremely difficult to cross the rest of the field. Because of this I am happy to oppose him at his current price
Beaudiene Boaz raced consistently without winning during the qualifying heats and he is probably racing at close to his best. I doubt that he will be disgraced, but I don’t think that he has the upside to win a race of this quality.
The Bucket List
The Bucket List is a highly inconsistent performer and he does not win out of turn, but he is capable of a quality effort on his day. He is a tough horse to trust from a betting perspective.
Our Jimmy Johnstone
Our Jimmy Johnstone is the outsider of the Inter Dominion and it is easy to see why.
