2017 Summer Sprint Day Preview

Single Bullet was arguably unlucky not to beat the talented Madeenaty in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic and it is easy to see how he has opened as such a short-priced favourite. If he is able to replicate his debut performance he should prove too strong for this field, but it is tough to get a horse that is having just his second race start as short as $1.50.

No Bet

The market has zeroed in on Redouble and First Approval and that makes France very attractive at the current price. He was only beaten by the talented Achi Baba at Rosehill Gardens last start and before that he showed plenty of toughness to win at Canterbury. He is just as good as the top two horses in the market and is excellent value at his current price.

She doesn’t have the best winning record, but Roeinda has still been racing well and is good value at her current price. Her performance at Canterbury last start was better than it looks on paper and I like the fact that she will be stepping back-up in trip to 1400 metres. She maps to get a lovely run just behind the speed from barrier six and the stable of Bjorn Baker is in excellent form.

This is a small field, but this is still a very competitive race. I am keen to take on the two favourites in this race and back the two horses that are available at double-figure odds. Song And Laughter is not getting any later, but she returned to the races with a good effort at Royal Randwick and she should only improve the further that she gets into her preparation. Gold Symphony’s performance on debut was better than it looks on paper first-up. He has really fired since he transferred to the care of Team Snowden, but I am keen to give him another chance at the current price.

This is a step-up in class, but Kingsguard is the only horse in this field that takes any real form into this race. There has been plenty of merit in his past two race starts and he is a horse that is still on the way up. This is his pet trip and he has a strong record at Warwick Farm. Rock Mylady is the danger. He did not have any luck whatsoever at Rosehill Gardens last start and he should be at peak fitness third-up.

This is a very interesting edition of the Summer Sprint and as the market suggests there are plenty of winning chances. I am always keen to back Kerrin McEvoy on a front-runner and he should be able to control the race on Plateau Gold. This is a step-up in class for Plateau Gold, but he loves this trip and makes his own luck right on the speed. Dal Cielo returned to the races with a tough effort at Muswellbrook and this looks an ideal race for him. 1000 metres is probably just short of his best trip, but he does have plenty of speed and class will take him a long way.

Invinzabeel finished his spring campaign with two quality wins and a repeat of those performances would put him right in the race. Chris Waller has elected to give him only a single barrier trial ahead of his return to racing and that is always a very positive sign from that stable. He maps to get a dream run into the race with Hugh Bowman in the saddle and he is outstanding value at his current quote of $7.

This is a tricky way to finish the day for punters and there are plenty of winning chances. Hogmanay has gone to another level this preparation and there is no reason why he can’t make it three wins on the trot. Chris Waller elected to give him a barrier trial in between runs, which is often a winning formula, and of the leading chances he maps to get the best run into this race. He can continue on with his winning ways. King Darci is the main danger and I don’t want to lose on the race if he is able to get the job done.
