Will Richmond Ever Lose Again?

They are up and about at Tigerland!

Very few experts considered Richmond a genuine finals contender before the start of the 2017 AFL season, but they have made a flawless start to their campaign and carry a 4-0 record into their clash with Melbourne this weekend.

We don’t want to get Richmond fans even more excited than they already are, but history dictates that 83.8 percent of teams that start the season 4-0 qualify for the AFL Finals!

Our AFL bookmakers aren’t quite convinced that Richmond are the real deal and have put together a betting market for when the Tigers will suffer their first loss of the season.

Round 5 vs Melbourne ($2.15)

This will be a solid test to see just where Richmond are at this season.

Melbourne have made an inconsistent start to the AFL season, but they will be buoyed by the return of Jordan Lewis this weekend and their record against Richmond is excellent – they have won the past three games played between the two sides.

Recent history is again them, but Richmond should be able to get the job done this weekend.

Round 6 vs Adelaide ($2.10)

Can you imagine how out of hand the hype would get if Richmond are able to beat Adelaide at the Adelaide Oval in round 6?

No team has made a more impressive start to the AFL season than Adelaide and their record at the Adelaide Oval is nothing short of outstanding.

It really is tough to see Richmond taking the four points from this clash, but a win over the Crows would really stamp the Tigers as a genuine contender – they did beat them in the pre-season.

Round 7 vs Western Bulldogs ($8)

It doesn’t get any easier for Richmond in round 7 as they take on the defending premiers.

The premiership hangover is definitely in place at the Western Bulldogs and Richmond could go into this clash with a degree of confidence – especially if they are able to beat Adelaide a week earlier.

Richmond have lost their past three against the Western Bulldogs, but it should be noted that no team has ever missed the AFL Finals after winning their first seven games!

Round 8 vs Fremantle ($41)

Fremantle have made some strides in recent weeks, but if Richmond are able to beat both Adelaide and the Western Bulldogs they really shouldn’t have any problems against the Dockers.

These two have played some thrillers in recent years and have split their past six games.

Round 9 vs Greater Western Sydney ($34)

To quote the great BT wowee!

A clash between an unbeaten Richmond and Greater Western Sydney would be the hottest ticket in town and would surely break all attendance records at Spotless Stadium – even if that is not saying much!

Greater Western Sydney gave Richmond an absolute flogging at the end of last year, but Richmond did win the first five games played by the two sides.

Round 10 vs Essendon ($81)

Surely at this point an unbeaten season would be on the cards?

Richmond have won their past five games against Essendon and based on both of their form so far this season, the Tigers have a clear edge over their rivals.

First Loss Round 11 Onwards ($51)

The last time that Richmond won 11 games in a row was in 1980.

I’m sure just about every Richmond supporter can tell us what happened that year!
