Clemson Tigers vs Alabama Crimson Tide
Twelve months ago these teams played out a classic National Championship game in Tampa with Clemson riding Deshaun Watson to victory. Unfortunately for the Tigers their all star quarterback is in Houston with the NFL franchise but that has not stopped them being the number one team in the nation heading into January. Alabama are always a threat under Nick Saban and are slight favourites. This has the makings of a classic and despite their status I like the top ranked side to squeak by in another tight fixture.
Melbourne Stars vs Brisbane Heat
Brisbane will still be smarting after their lacklustre loss on New Years Eve in Adelaide. Their total of 91 was the lowest in the competition this season and big hitting Chris Lynn was out for a controversial duck and will want to make amends for that. The Stars are not faring all that well losing both their matches so far including their tournament opener to the Heat on December 20. Both sides have great names on paper but we have seen the Heat put it together already this year and I like them to do it here.
West Ham United vs West Bromwich Albion
West Brom pulled off an impressive albeit slightly controversial draw with Arsenal on New Years Eve and face the tough task of backing it up with a trip to West Ham. Their last match was a 3-3 draw with Bournemouth one week ago so they will be fresh going into this game. They do have two games in the space of 48 hours with a clash at Tottenham Friday morning as well so their approach will be worth monitoring but even so, the full week of rest is enough to make be confident in West Ham here.
