The saddle slipped when Mini Meld was beaten at the Gold Coast last start and before that he had recorded three wins from four starts over the 900 metres at the Gold Coast. He has had issues during his racing career to date, but he does have a great deal of speed and he can cross this field from the wide barrier draw. The $8 currently available is well and truly over the odds.

This is the most interesting race of the day and a crucial lead-up to the Magic Millions Classic. The market has zeroed in on Sunlight and Terminology. There was plenty of hype around Terminology before she made her racing debut in the Wyong Magic Millions Classic and she didn’t have a great deal of luck, but she was still fairly poor.
Sunlight started the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes as a clear favourite and she romped in by five lengths at the Gold Coast last start. This is a stiffer test and she has to show that she is capable of running a strong 1200 metres, but on that effort she does have a clear edge over the rest of this field and is deserving of her status as a short-priced favourite.

All Too Huiying and Boom Boom Epic fought out the finish last start at the Gold Coast and a repeat does look on the cards in this race. All Too Huiying probably cost himself the race when he hung in last start and if he is able to keep his mind on the job in this contest he can turn-the-tables on his rival. Michael Walker will push forward in the early stages of this race and give his rivals something to chase.

The Rumour File has finished second at his past two starts and he gets the chance to return to winning form in this contest. There is no fitter horse in this race and on his best form he does have the edge over his rivals. If Jim Byrne is able to turn this into a genuine staying contest, he will prove too tough late.

This is an open race and it is Colosimo that really appeals at his current price. Colosmio does not have a great winning record, but he was excellent in the Gold Edition Plate last start and this is a genuine drop in class. The form coming out of that race has proven to be strong and a repeat of that effort would be more than good enough to win a race of this quality.

Perfect Dare is not the most consistent horse in the world, but he is capable of a high-rating performance on his day. He ran extremely impressive time when he won at the Gold Coast last start and that effort was no fluke. The wide barrier draw gives Jim Byrne plenty of options and with even luck in running he has the chance to return to winning form.

This is one of the most open races of the day and you can make a case for the majority of the runners in this field. Cantbuybetter, Feltre, Don’t Tell Mama, Slydini and Aqua Vite are all capable of winning this race without surprising, but all look to have found their right prices. It is impossible to bet into this race with any confidence.
Race 8 - 4:50pm AEDT
Zumbelina is a much better horse than her last start effort suggests and I am willing to give her another chance. Her best form in Sydney is more than good enough to win a race of this quality and she did have genuine excuses at black-type level at Doomben. This is a drop in class and with even luck in running from barrier one she will be tough to beat.

This is a tough way to finish the day for punters and there are a stack of chances. Luck in running will be crucial, but Prue’s Angel does have a better chance than her current odds suggest. She does have the early speed to press across and take up a forward position from the wide barrier draw, while her last start effort behind the talented Criquette had plenty of merit. She is worth a small gamble at the current price.
