Melbourne Women vs Brisbane Lions Women
With just three games remaining in the AFLW season, it is now or never for Melbourne as they try to close the gap on the two sides currently occupying the Grand Final placings. Luckily for them, one of those sides is Brisbane, who they face Friday night and are aiming for their second straight appearance in the decider. It will be no easy task for the Demons as Brisbane have an energy that is hard for opponents to match. Despite the Demons desperation, they will be down on confidence having lost two straight and this is not the team to get it back against.
Queensland Reds vs ACT Brumbies
Safe to say last week’s season opener could not have gone much worse for the Reds as they were belted by the Rebels, paying for poor discipline. Last season when these teams met at Suncorp it was in an early July (and late season) fog as the Reds won on a late kick by Quade Cooper. Things are very different at Ballymore now and this Brumbies side has the potential to run in plenty of points. To do that they will be relying on their most potent weapon to get across the line. With the Brumbies win, the value in this game is in taking Speight to score out wide.
Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory
One of the feature matches on the A-League calendar, the third and final Melbourne Derby kicks off the second split round. Both sides have claimed victory once this season however Victory have much more to lose in this game as they are in danger of falling out of the top four after this game. These derbies tend to be decided by moments of brilliance and there is no brighter spark than City’s whiz kid Daniel Arzani who will be in for his toughest day in the A-League and has a chance to shine.
