In a surprise interview, Gai Waterhouse claims her latest boom 2 year old colt, Santos, is probably “the right price” for the Golden Slipper.
Known for her exuberance and excitement during interviews, the 63 year old Queen of the Turf, looked straight at the cameras and announced that the “Bookies have got it right this time.”
So rare was the honesty in the interview that it has thrown bookmakers and punters alike.
The I Am Invincible colt has won impressively in his first two race starts this prep leading up to the Slipper, which has further bewildered punters and media personalities as to why she isn’t comparing the young colt to her previous champions Pierro and Sebring or calling the colt ‘sexy’ in her post-race interviews.
“He’s a decent young horse who has a chance on the weekend and that’s all there is to it really,” Waterhouse said.
Is this the new Gai Waterhouse that we can expect from here on in? Or is she playing punters for fools ahead of the world’s richest race for juveniles?
Punters aren’t convinced and have backed the colt early in betting.
“You can never trust a Waterhouse,” murmured a grump old bloke at the pub (probably).
