Uruguay vs France Betting
It is France that will start this game as clear favourites and they are $1.95 to secure victory in regular time and they are $1.44 to qualify for the Semi Finals.
The draw is on the second line of betting at $3.10 and $4.50 is available for an upset Uruguay win, while they are $2.63 to progress to the next stage of the tournament.
How They Got There
France were not overly impressive during the group stages, but were still able to record wins over Australia and Peru before they played out a scoreless draw with Denmark to finish on top of the group.
They kicked into gear with a thrilling quarter-final win over Argentina and Kylian Mbappe was particularly impressive in their 4-3 victory.
Uruguay took plenty of time to beat Egypt in their World Cup opener and they weren’t particularly impressive against Saudi Arabia before they secured top-spot in the pool with an emphatic win over Russia.
A tough round of 16 clash against Portugal laid in their wake, but they were able to keep Cristiano Ronaldo very quiet and score a hard-fought 2-1 win.
This will be the 8th meeting between Uruguay and France and France have not beaten their rivals since 1985.
Their only previous clash at a World Cup came in South Africa in 2010 when they played out a scoreless draw in what was a very dull clash.
There is little chance that this clash will have the fireworks of the meeting between France and Argentina and Uruguay have every chance of causing an upset over this fancied French outfit.
Argentina showed exactly what not to do against France and there is no doubt that Uruguay will sit much deeper to avoid giving space to the likes of Mbappe and Antoine Griezmann.
Uruguay have proven incredible tough to break down – they have conceded only one goal in 2018 – and in the form of Luis Suarez they do have a genuine gamebreaker capable of winning games on his own.
The loss of Edison Cavani is a big one as he has been outstanding during this tournament to date, but the Uruguyan defence is more than capable of frustrating the French attack and they have not responded well to this in recent major tournaments.
I would be surprised if this game was settled in regular time and the $3.10 for this clash to finish as a stalemate is excellent value, while the $2.63 on offer for Uruguay to qualify for the next stage of the tournament appeals as well.
