Facebooktwittermail

Brazil take on Belgium in a highly anticipated World Cup Quarter Final on Saturday morning and this could very well be the most important game of the tournament to date.

Brazil remain favourites to win the 2018 World Cup following their strong win over Mexico in the Round Of 16, but Belgium could very well take that title if they are able to win this fixture.

Will Brazil move one-step closer to World Cup redemption or will Belgium qualify for the World Cup Semi Finals for only the second time in their history?

We have analysed both sides and our World Cup Quarter Final tips can be found below.

Brazil vs Belgium Betting

It is Brazil that will start this clash as clear favourites at a quote of $2.05 and they are $1.50 to qualify for the Semi Finals.

A draw at the end of regulation time is $3.40 and an upset Belgium win is $3.70, while they are $2.50 to move into the Semi Finals.

How They Got There

Brazil have improved each time that they have been seen at this tournament and their win over Mexico in the Round Of 16 was one of a professional unit.

They started their campaign with a surprise 1-1 draw with Switzerland and they required a couple of late injury time goals to beat Costa Rica, but they were strong against Serbia and the pleasing thing for manager Tite is that they have only conceded a single goal.

Belgium cruised their way through the group with wins over Panama, Tunisia and England, but they hit a serious roadblock in their Round Of 16 clash against Japan.

They were unable to breakdown Japan in the first half and they went down 2-0 at the start of the second half before they produced a remarkable comeback that was capped off with a length of the field goal in the final seconds of injury time.

Recent Meetings

This will be the fourth meeting between these two sides and Brazil have won all four of the previous meetings.

In saying that, they have not met since the 2002 World Cup and Belgium have improved remarkably in that period.

Analysis

This is easily the toughest test of the World Cup to date for both these sides and it does shape as an extremely intriguing clash.

The key factor in this fixture will be the defence of Brazil and they have been very tough to break down during the tournament to date.

They have conceded only a single goal and have actually conceded less than ten shots, which is fairly remarkable at this stage of the tournament.

This defence is overshadowed by the forward line that is led by Neymar and Coutinho, but it is their back four that should prove to be the difference between these two sides.

Belgium have an absolute wealth of attacking talent and Brazil will have their work cut out for them shutting down the likes of Eden Hazard, Romelu Lukaku, Kevin De Bruyne and Dries Mertens, but the issue for Belgium is their defence.

They were badly exposed down the wings by Japan and Japan don’t have the quality of Neymar and Coutinho, while the lack of speed possessed by Vincent Kompany and Toby Alderweireld is a serious concern.

There should be plenty of goals scored in this clash, but I’m still not convinced that Belgium have the overall quality to upstage this well-drilled Brazil outfit.
