Race 1 - 3:24pm
The market has zeroed in on Fire And Rain and Market Ruler, but it is Rebel Yell that appeals at his current price of $7.50. He only narrowly got the job done at Bunbury last start, but he still ran really good time and I like the fact that he has been kept at 1000 metres. Lucy Warwick will be able to settle Rebel Yell right on the speed and he will give his rivals something to catch.

Danny George will return to the races in what is a very winnable contest. He has recorded two wins from his three race starts over 1000 metres and he is unbeaten first-up. His two barrier trials ahead of his return to the races have only been fair and he will give his rivals a start, but he does have the turn-of-foot over these short course sprints to finish over the top of this field.

This is one of the toughest betting races of the day and it is packed full of winning chances. This isn’t a race that I want to get too heavily involved in, but a horse that does appeal is Molten. He started his career in Sydney under the care of Team Snowden and showed serious talent on his day. His barrier trial ahead of his return to the races was electric and he goes into what is an open contest as a serious winning chance.

Royal Statue has recorded four wins on the trot and there is no reason that he can’t continue his winning ways. He gave his rivals a big start at Ascot last start and he was still able to find over the top of them to claim an impressive. William Pike won’t have to settle him as far back from barrier three and he maps to get a lovely trail into this contest.

The Velvet King failed to run out a strong mile in the WA Guineas a fortnight ago and the drop back to 1400 metres is ideal for him. He won the Fairetha Stakes over this track and distance first-up and a repeat of that performance would make him too strong for this field. He makes his own luck right on the speed and he can return to winning form.

This really does look like a race in two between Celebrity Dream and Misty Metal and I fancy Celebrity Dream to turn-the-tables on her rival. She may not have won a race this campaign, but she has still been racing well and, on her best form, she is the class mare in this field. William Pike left her too much room to do last start and I think that she will relish the step-up to 1400 metres at this stage of her career.

Action was never able to get into the race when he finished 11th in the Railway Stakes and I think that this is a more suitable race for him. The step-up from 1600 metres to 2200 metres isn’t ideal, but he has run well in this distance range in the past – he won the WATC Derby earlier this year by four lengths. I think that he is the class runner in this field and he will prove too strong for his short-priced stablemate Mississippi Delta.

This is one of the most interesting editions of the Kingston Town Classic. Arcadia Queen is the key to this race and the question is whether you can get her as short as her current price of $2.25. There is no doubt that she is a very talented filly and she has a big future, but the current price is under the odds. You can’t really poke any holes in her record and the way that she put away her rivals in the WA Guineas was excellent. In saying that, that was hardly a vintage edition of that race and this is easily the toughest test of her career to date. She will need to go to another level to beat the proven performers in this field.
The horse that is well and truly over the odds at his current price is Material Man. He wasn’t beaten far by Pounamu in this race 12 months ago and his lead-up run in the Railway Stakes was much better this year than it was in 2017. Not only did he carry the top weight, but he did plenty of work and he was still able to tough it out to the finish. Weight-for-age conditions are ideal for him, the step-up to 1800 metres suits and he has recorded three wins from his four second-up starts. He has always looked capable of recording a win at the highest level and he can do just that on Saturday.

This is a tricky way to finish the day for punters. Dark Prospect is a horse that rarely produces a poor performance and he should be in the mix in this contest. The drop back in trip to 1800 metres proved ideal last start and the form coming out of that race has been fairly strong. He remains at 1800 metres again for this contest and there is no reason that he can’t make it two wins on the trot.
