2018 Lough Neagh Stakes Day Preview

Race 1 - 12:22pm

BenchMark 85 Handicap (1615m)

Bryneich is a winner of two his last three starts on the mid-week circuit and steps up to Saturday class in the BenchMark 85 Handicap following his last start win over 1690m at Ipswich and has a great chance to score back to back wins. Apoloboom has been fairly consistent in Saturday class and has been around the minor placings in recent outings and will be thereabouts again. Constantine will get every chance from the inside gate and Bequeathed is the winner of her last two starts in Toowoomba.

Race 2 - 12:58pm

Open Handicap (2020m)

Stanley hardly ever puts in a bad run and has a win and four placings from his last five starts and is one of the main chances again. Estikhraaj is another who is racing consistently around Doomben over similar distance as this week’s race and beat Stanley home last start over 2000m and will be in contention again. Estikhraaj’s stablemate Tumultuous has the ability to bob up every now and then and Magnufighter is overdue for a win over this course and distance.

Race 3 - 1:33pm

Class 3 Plate (1350m)

Bluebrook is fitter for one run back from a spell and a drop in class and a good barrier will give him every chance to breakthrough for a win in the Class 3 Plate. The prospect of a rain affected track is also in Bluebrook’s favour. Auerbach has winning form on the out of town tracks and wasn’t beaten far last start when third over this course and distance and has to be included in the chances. New Horizons comes to town as a last start winner at the Gold Coast and Axella is on the improve.

Race 4 - 2:12pm

Phelan Ready 2yo C&G Stakes (1110m)

The Tony McEvoy trained Sun City has faced the starter on one occasion for a second over 1000m down the Flemington straight in the Maribyrnong Trial Stakes back in October and with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle from the inside gate the Zoustar colt will be hard to beat in the Phelan Ready Stakes. The Odyssey was a winner over this course and distance in October and has won a recent barrier trial in preparation for his return to the race track and has to be included among the chances. Well Prepared scored on debut at the Gold Coast and comes to town a winner while Chris Waller puts the polish on Krameric.

Race 5 - 2:52pm

Calaway Gal 2yo F Stakes (1110m)

The Liam Birchley trained Courseshewill is undefeated from two starts at Toowoomba and Doomben in her first preparation and will resume in the Calaway Gal Stakes with the blinkers on and must be included as one of the main chances. Gala Miss was also a winner on debut over 1050m at Doomben and has claims again. Country Cocktail collected the runner’s up cheque at Doomben last start and Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott will saddle up Not A Single Doubt filly Single Blonde who has been to the races once for a third on the Kensington track at Randwick.

Race 6 - 3:32pm

Bribie Handicap (1050m)

Houtzen is the class runner of the Bribie Handicap field and will fly over the 1050m with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle and has been installed as the odds on favourite with Ladbrokes.com.au. Houtzen was beaten less than two lengths last start when sixth in the Group 1 Manikato Stakes at The Valley. Irish Constabulary could prove to be a bit of value at double figure odds and will save plenty of petrol from the inside gate and will be charging home late. Tarzan, Volkoff and Gracida are all winners over this course and distance.

Race 7 - 4:15pm

Class 6 Plate (1200m)

Jeff Lloyd has stuck with last start beaten favourite The Mechanic and even though he has drawn the outside barrier, has to be given another chance in the Class 6 Plate. Looks Like Elvis wasn’t far off the mark last start for a sixth over this course and distance and could figure in the finish if he gets the right run. Mishani Bullit has good first up form and Shogun Sun had handy form before a break.

Race 8 - 4:50pm

Gold Edition 3yo Plate (1200m)

Trainer Tony Gollan has the two favourites in the Gold Edition Plate and the unbeaten Zoustyle and the last start winning filly Outback Barbie look certain to fight out the finish. Both were last start winners over this course and distance with Zoustyle running slightly faster time than the filly. Jeff Lloyd rides Churning who finished third to Outback Barbie last start and Granny Red Shoes showed plenty of ability during the Winter.

Race 9 - 5:26pm

Lough Neagh Stakes (1350m)

Niccanova has found winning form at his last two starts over the same course and distance as the Lough Neagh Stakes and with the prospect of a wet track will prove hard to beat again. I’m A Rippa was back in the winner’s stall last start after leading all of the way and if he gets his own way in front again might prove hard to run down, although he is up 2kg on that win. Tyzone has just finished out of the placings at his last two starts but does like a wet track while Care To Think has plenty of class on his side.
