The 2019 Gosford Gold Cup run over 2100m at Listed level on Thursday is the feature race during the week with last year’s winner Singing looking to make it back to back Gosford Gold Cup wins. Last year’s Gosford Gold Cup completed a hat trick of wins for the Kris Lees trained Singing but the French import has only been placed once from three subsequent race starts. Lees will also saddle up Articus in the twelve horse field while Chris Waller will also have two runners with Satono Rasen and Araaja.

We have analysed the entire field and our complete 2019 Gosford Gold Cup tips can be found below.

Fabrizio

The Gai Waterhouse and Adrian Bott trained Fabrizio has the equal top weight of 59kg and will carry the number one saddle cloth in the 2019 Gosford Gold Cup. Fabrizio last stepped out a month ago when ninth in the Group 2 $250,000 Villiers Stakes (1600m) at Randwick but has finished fourth in a recent 1030m Rosehill barrier trial. Fabrizio is yet to win beyond 1800m.

Singing

Equal top weight Singing is up 3.5kg on last year’s win in the Gosford Gold Cup and is facing the starter for the first time since finishing fourth in the Group 3 $150,000 N E Manion Cup (2400m) at Rosehill last March during the 2018 Sydney Autumn Carnival. Trainer Kris Lees has given Singing two recent barrier trials to fit him for his return to the racetrack for a second over 1200m at Gosford followed by a win in a 1200m trial at Wyong. The nine year old will need more than his fair share of luck from barrier eleven if he is to complete a Gosford Gold Cup double.

Grand Rosso

Grande Rosso has been sent out at long odds at his last three starts, finishing where the market suggested, and heads to the Gosford Gold Cup following his last start seventh in the Group 3 $160,000 Summer Cup over 2000m at Randwick on Boxing Day. Slightly easier here but still must show a lot of improvement. Is yet to win beyond 1600m.

Satono Rasen.

Japanese import Satono Rasen ran his best race since arriving in Australia when runner up last start, at huge odds, in the Group 3 $160,000 Summer Cup over 2000m at Randwick on Boxing Day and a repeat of that run will see the Chris Waller trained seven year old figure amongst the prizemoney again. Has strong each way claims with James McDonald to ride.

Prioritise

Queensland trained gelding Prioritise found himself back in the winner’s stall last start in an 1800m Gold Coast BenchMark 90 Handicap on January 5. Drops 3kg on his last start win and the Steve Tregea trained five year old will get every chance from the inside gate.

Sir Plush

In-form trainer Bjorn Baker prepared two winners at the rich Magic Millions race day at the Gold Coast last Saturday and he will be hoping his luck holds out with Sir Plush in the Gosford Gold Cup. Sir Plush is stepping up in distance and will find this assignment harder than he last start second in the Kensington Handicap over 1550m on the Kensington track at Randwick on January 5.

Articus

Articus is the second of trainer Kris Lees two runners and will appreciate the the 6.5kg weight drop on his last start fifth to Prioritise in the 1800m BenchMark 90 Handicap at the Gold Coast. Articus looks suited this class and distance and has strong each way claims.

Araaja

Araaja, from the Chris Waller stable, has been around the minor prizemoney recently in restricted grade and will find this tougher than his latest fourth in a 2110m BenchMark 88 Handicap at Warwick Farm on December 22.

Roman Son

Roman Son appreciated the drop in weight last start and made up some ground from the back when fifth in the Group 3 $160,000 Summer Cup over 2000m at Randwick on Boxing Day. The Richard Freedman trained Roman Son is on the minimum again and with the Magic Millions 2yo Classic winning jockey Kerrin McEvoy in the saddle, has to be considered as one of the chances.

Berdibek

Berdibek is fitter for two runs back from a spell but has to carry 3.5kg more in weight than he had when second in a 1600m BenchMark 94 Handicap at Randwick on December 29.

The Getaway

The Getaway has been well beaten at his last two starts and heads to the Gosford Gold Cup on the back of a last start seventh in the Kensington Handicap over 1550m on the Kensington track at Randwick on January 5.

Wild About Her

Wild About Her has earned herself a spot in the Gosford Gold Cup with a hat trick of wins in restricted class at Gosford and Newcastle but the four year old mare will find this much tougher than her last start win in a 1890m BenchMark 64 Handicap at Newcastle on Boxing Day.
