2019 Sunshine Coast Cup Day Preview

Race 1 - 12:27pm AEDT

Class 3 Plate (1600m)

We will stick with the strength in the first race on Sunshine Coast Cup Race Day and put our trust in the Chris Waller trained Le Juge. Robbie Fradd is sticking with the six year old following a win and a third placing at the Doomben midweeks. Tony Gollan will saddle up Red Phantom who has been around the minor placings of late and Volomite has claims again after two recent wins over the same course and distance as this Saturday’s contest.

Race 2 - 1:02pm AEDT

Open Handicap (2400m)

Art Attack is racing in great form with two wins from his last three starts as he climbs his way up to the 2400m of this weekend’s race. Jim Byrne will ease in behind the speed from the outside barrier and let the six year old settle in the middle of the pack before making his challenge in the straight. Art Attack is a winner over the 2400m. Capital Gain gets his chance to show his wares over the longer journey and Follow Suit is fitter for recent racing.

Race 3 - 1:37pm AEDT

2yo Classic Plate (1200m)

Stampe was an impressive midweek winner at Doomben last start and deserves his chance in Saturday class and will be hard to beat again against this opposition. The Chris Munce stable is in great form at the moment. Alligator Blood is a last start winner over this course and distance and has also earned his chance to be tested in the Saturday arena on his home track. Royalist is the winner of his only race start in a Gold Coast Maiden and is sure to make his presence felt again.

Race 4 - 2:12pm AEDT

QTIS 3yo Handicap (1600m)

Apprentice Clayton Gallagher’s 3kg claim brings Barefoot’s weight down to a nice level and he looks the one to beat on his last start fourth in the Magic Millions 3yo Guineas at the Gold Coast two weeks ago. Chris Waller and Robbie Fradd combine again with Tatcee who has consistent form with a win and three placings from her last four starts. The Kingdom is fitter for two runs back from a spell and will wear the blinkers for the first time while Mystic Brook broke through for her maiden win at Doomben last start.

Race 5 - 2:52pm AEDT

QTIS 3yo Handicap (1000m)

Invigorating is the winner of her only two race starts before a spell and will get every chance from inside gate to make it three from three. Defence Missile was racing in outstanding form before a break with a hat trick of wins but has drawn the outside barrier and is yet to win first up. Archer’s Paradox can mix up his form and Time And Again has handy New South Wales Provincial form.

Race 6 - 3:32pm AEDT

Open Handicap (1000m)

From Within strung together four wins on the trot during the Spring last year and was rewarded with a win at Listed level over 1100m at Caulfield in October. She is a two times winner over this course and distance, has won first up in the past and looks hard to beat. Tumbler also has a good first up record and has drawn in close and Stella Ombre will race handy from the inside gate.

Race 7 - 4:12pm AEDT

BenchMark 75 Handicap (1200m)

Dream Master has led at his last two starts so he should be able to make light work of the outside gate and be hard to run down with Jeff Lloyd in the saddle. Ignite The Light was a last start all the way Doomben winner and looks suited here. Exceedingly and Limerick Moon are both winners over this course and distance.

Race 8 - 4:47pm AEDT

Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m)

Sir Bacchus is hard to catch but was a winner two starts back and Robbie Fradd will give the Chris Waller trained gelding every chance from the inside gate. Bergerac is racing in career best form with a win and a second from his last two starts at Doomben and Eagle Farm and has to be one of the chances again. Shogun Sun has claims if he can repeat his last start third in the Magic Millions Cup at the Gold Coast and Gaulois will wear the blinkers for the first time.

Race 9 - 5:25pm AEDT

0MW Handicap (1400m)

Coral Bay was sent out as the equal favourite last week at Eagle Farm but never threatened but can be given another chance with a quick back up and with the winkers back on. Ponytales is a winner over the same course and distance and Mewstone Rock has had some early support in the betting at Ladbrokes.com.au.

2 Units Coral Bay
