Race 1 - 1pm
You Make Me Smile has been racing well this time and strikes another winnable one at Rosehill on Coolmore Classic Day. The So You Think gelding strung together three impressive wins, including a two-length triumph in a BM88 sprint at Randwick before producing a tough run for fourth in the Group 3 Liverpool City Cup last time out. He’ll go straight to the lead and will give them something to chase again.

Easy Eddie has been freshened for his run in the Maurice McCarten Stakes and looks a winning chance. The Super Easy gelding recorded two-consecutive wins in late December and early January and was last seen finishing a nose second to Tactical Advantage in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes. He has trialled well in the lead-up to this race and will have conditions to suit.

Another opportunity for a Godolphin-trained two-year-old to win at black type level – James Cummings has accepted with three, including Athiri. Athiri immediately stamped herself as a filly to follow when she debuted for a smart win over 1100m here at Rosehill in December. Since resuming, she’s placed third in the Group 2 Blue Diamond Prelude for fillies and fourth in the Group 1 Ladbrokes Blue Diamond. James McDonald jumps back into the saddle and has options from the rails draw. This looks her perfect race.

The Pago Pago Stakes looks to be one of the more open races on Coolmore Classic Day and there is a case to be made for more than half the field.
There was plenty of merit in the debut performance of Born A Warrior and he’s drawn beautifully for his second career task here. Trained by Team Hawkes, Born A Warrior missed the jump in the Silver Slipper, but recovered well to run on for third (albeit five lengths behind Time To Reign). He’ll have taken plenty of benefit from the experience and is as good a chance as any in this race.

Verry Elleegant is a potential star in the making and she looks beautifully placed in the Phar Lap Stakes field. The Zed filly was a strong and consistent performer throughout 2018 and resumed this time with a bold effort to finish second in The Vanity (1400m). She’ll improve noticeably into this race, she’s drawn beautifully in barrier 2 and has the notable advantage of James McDonald aboard once more. She is my best bet of the day.

Red Cardinal broke through for his first win in Australia first-up this time and will be tough to beat in the Sky High Stakes. The European import clearly required his first full preparation in Australia to find his feet, but his first-up run and win in the Listed Parramatta Cup was bullish and he typically enjoys big improvement into his second-up assignments. Kerrin McEvoy can slot in behind the pace from barrier 12 and will look to finish over the top of his rivals.

Race 7 - 4:50pm
Typically, one of the most open Group 1 races on the Australian calendar and the 2019 Coolmore Classic is certainly no exception.
Oregon’s Day just missed when second in this race last year and looms as a live threat again. The Domesday mare resumed for an impressive win in the Group 3 Frances Tressady Stakes and will take plenty of improvement into this race. She’ll launch from a good gate and with even luck, can be fighting out the finish.
Dixie Blossoms is probably unlucky not to have recorded a Group 1 win but gets another chance on Saturday. The Street Sense mare finished within a length of stable mate Daysee Doom in this race last year and resumed this time for a close-up second in the Group 2 Guy Walter Stakes a fortnight ago.
White Moss will carry winning form into the race and looks over the odds at her current price. The Mossman mare led all the way in the Group 2 Millie Fox second-up and can go straight to the lead from barrier 5.

Fierce Impact will resume from a let-up and looks over the odds at his double-figure quote. The Deep Impact entire has been a strong and consistent performer for Matt Smith since arriving in Australia and was last seen recording a smart win in the Group 3 Summer Cup. He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials in the lead-up to this race and is up to winning.

Sondelon carries winning form into the last and looks the one to beat again. The Lonhro gelding took up the running over 1500m here last time out and never appeared in doubt; extending to finish two lengths in the clear of his closest rivals. He’ll only improve fourth-up and at 1900m and can emulate his last-start tactics from an inside draw.
