2019 Jewel Raceday Day Preview


Race 1 - 11:35am AEST

Class 3 Plate (1800m)

The Chris Waller trained See The Master was a last start winner over this course and distance and is the one to beat again with Robbie Fradd retaining the ride. Drumadoir has been consistent with two wins and two seconds from her last four starts and will be thereabouts again. Haames is a last start Randwick Highway winner and Gunbolt has been placed at his last two starts at the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

Race 2 - 12:12pm AEST

BenchMark 85 Handicap (2400m)

The Chris Waller stable will saddle up four runners here and it is possible that they will fill the top four placings. Follow Suit meets Vaucluse Bay better at the weights after finishing fifth to him over 2200m at Doomben last start. Wu Gok and Cormac finished third and fourth over 2212m at Eagle Farm and are in the mix again.

Race 3 - 12:48pm AEST

NMW Handicap (900m)

Bonsho is a two times winner over the Gold Coast 900m and from the inside gate looks the one to beat. Bachelor’s Art has been freshened up after his win over 1100m here and can figure in the finish again. Killerman’s Run is a three times winner over this course and distance and has won first up in the past and Hirtshals is a last start 1050m Doomben winner.

BenchMark 70 Handicap (1200m)

Boom Boy was a winner over this course and distance two starts back and can bounce back after a last start Ipswich fourth. Cosmic Story resumed for a win at the Sunshine Coast, Warface has been thereabouts lately and Masterati has good Eagle Farm form but has to contend with a wide gate.

BenchMark 70 Handicap (1200m)

Char Char is resuming and has won first up in the past, has won a recent Doomben barrier trial and is at good each way odds. Winter Passage has been ultra-consistent with one win and five placings from her last six starts and can figure in the mix again. Reindeer Moon is stepping up to 1200m after three wins over the shorter distances and Scorcha has the blinkers on for the first time.

Gold Coast Stakes (1800m)

The Chris Waller runners dominate here again with Jaminzah, Xebec and Le Juge all having strong chances. Hallelujah Boy has been thereabouts of late and will get the run of the race from the inside gate.

QTIS 2yo Jewel (1200m)

The Odyssey scored a stunning all the way win at Doomben last start and is the one to beat from the inside barrier. Ready To Roam tried hard to catch The Odyssey but had to be content for second while his Tony Gollan trained stablemate Perudo is on the improve. Also look for improvement from the Peter and Paul Snowden trained Time For Love.

QTIS 3yo Jewel (1200m)

Defence Missile worked into contention for the 3yo Jewel with a solid second at Doomben and will get the run of the race from the inside gate. Toowoomba filly Spirit’s Choice has collected a hat trick of wins on the out of town tracks and has earned her chance to chase the big prizemoney. McEwen has been racing consistently in the city and Trail Of Glory is one for the exotics.

Goldmarket (1200m)

Mr Marbellouz was back in the winner’s stall last start at Doomben and will be in the firing line for a long time. Tyzone races well this track and distance with two wins and a second from three attempts, including a last start win over the Gold Coast 1200m course. From Within is back on her home track after a well beaten thirteenth in the Group 1 Oakleigh Plate at Caulfield and will find this a lot easier while Divine Dice heads to the Gold Coast a last start winner at Eagle Farm..

Race 10 - 5:25pm AEST

Class 6 Plate (1400m)

Second emergency On Show is into the field with three early scratchings and gets her chance to keep her winning streak going after two wins at the Sunshine Coast and two wins over this course and distance. Honour’N’Strength is also a two times winner over the Gold Coast 1400m course and is coming off a handy third at Eagle Farm. Beacon is ready to shine after being placed at his last two starts at Doomben and Eagle Farm and Brains is worth plenty of thought on his latest Saturday form.
