2019 Kingsford-Smith Cup Day Preview


Race 1 - 11:10am AEST

BenchMark 90 Handicap (1200m)

Ef Troop was a class above his rivals with a first up all the way win at Doomben a fortnight ago and has good gate speed to negate the wide barrier. Dreams Are Plenty is fitter for one run back and the 3kg claim will help. Noble Boy’s New South Wales form is hard to fault with six wins from his seven career starts and Egyptian Bullet is a last start runner up at Caulfield.

Race 2 - 11:45am AEST

Class 6 Handicap (1400m)

Cruze is the winner of two of his last three starts and will get the run of the race from the inside gate. Corey Bayliss’ 3kg claim will help his chances. So Spirited has been placed at his last two starts and has the blinkers back on. The Avenger also has recent placings at Eagle Farm and Doomben and Awake The Stars in fitter for one run back.

Race 3 - 12:20pm AEST

Grand Prix Stakes (2200m)

Melbourne three year old Grinzinger Star has consistent form with two wins from his last three starts, is a winner over 2200m and steps out as one of the main chances. Kiwi colt Lord Arthur comes to Eagle Farm a last start Group 2 winner over 2100m at Ellerslie and has the in-form James McDonald in the saddle. Borazon is also a winner over 2200m and A Man To Match is hitting form at the right time with a last start second in the Group 3 Rough Habit Plate over 2000m at Doomben two weeks ago.

2 Units Grinzinger Star

Race 4 - 12:55pm AEST

F&M Stakes (1300m)

Quilista made it look easy last week with a three and a half lengths win over 1200m and the extra distance will suit. Invincibella is better than her last start twelfth at Randwick and looks well suited here. Oregon’s Day will find this easier than her Group 1 assignments during the Sydney Autumn Carnival and Sexy Eyes is always around the mark.

Race 5 - 1:35pm AEST

Lord Mayor’s Cup (1600m)

Mr Consistency Tom Melbourne has been placed at his last three starts and gets his chance to break through for an overdue win here. Stablemate Le Juge on the other hand knows where the winning post is with six wins from his last seven starts and has strong claims again. Lite’n In My Veins is a last start winner at Morphettville over 1600m and Order Again can give the locals some hope.

Race 6 - 2:15pm AEST

Sires’ Produce Stakes (1400m)

Strasbourg ran home strongly at the end of the 1200m to dead heat for second in the Group 2 Champagne Classic and looks capable of handling the step up to the 1400m. The judge couldn’t split Czarson and Strasbourg for the runner’s up cheque and the pair are set to clash again. Accession has two wins and three placings from his five starts and is always a chance and Creator is a last start winner at Hawkesbury.

Premier’s Cup (2200m)

Second emergency The Candy Man has gained a place in the starting line up and has a great chance to stretch his winning sequence to seven. The Lord Mayor is also racing in outstanding form with wins at his last two starts and suited by the 2200m. Kiwi mare Igraine has handy form and Luvaluva is dropping back in class following her latest fifth in the Group 1 Doomben Cup over 2000m last Saturday.

Kingsford-Smith Cup (1300m)

I Am Excited looked at home on the new Eagle Farm track with her win in the Group 2 Victory Stakes over 1200m and she looms as one of the major players in the Group 1 Kingsford-Smith Cup. The Bostonian was an upset winner in the Doomben 10,000 two weeks a ago and has to be among the top chances again. Dollar For Dollar chased The Bostonian home into third place and Outback Barbie wasn’t that far behind and will be running on again.

Race 9 - 4:15pm AEST

Fred Best Classic (1400m)

Military Zone has solid overall form, is fitter for two runs back from a spell and looks well suited here. Seabrook is dropping back to three year old class after being unplaced in Fillies and Mares Group 1 company and will find this easier. Vega One was an impressive last start winner in the Listed Queensland Day Stakes and Zoutori has won his last three starts in Victoria.
