PUNTER’S PAL

Name a winner and they were the punter’s pal in round 18. After a strong couple of weeks for bookmakers, the punters landed all the blows at the weekend, starting with Brisbane’s victory over the Bulldogs on Thursday night.

The Broncos win was the biggest result for punters in round 18 with South Sydney’s victory over the Cowboys the next best.

Support for the overs in total match points in the Gold Coast versus Melbourne and Manly versus Parramatta games pushed the lines out 38.5 to 41.5 and 39.5 to 42.5 respectively, and both cruised past the adjusted figures.

BOOKIE’S BEST

The only win for bookies at the weekend was a very small victory with the Warriors edging past Cronulla. In any other week, it would barely rate a mention but, in round 18, it was the only victory to report.

FIRST TRY FILL-UP

First try betting was one area where Ladbrokes managed get something back on the punters, with six of the eight results falling in their favour.

The two players who proved rewarding for punters where Manly’s hat-trick hero Reuben Garrick at $8 and Briton Nikora for the Sharks who was well found at a very nice price of $23.

MULTI MAGIC

Leaving out the coin flip Warriors versus Sharks game proved a profitable play for one punter who nailed the remainder of the round.

Kicking off with a Broncos half time/full time double to add value, he then took the Panthers, Roosters, Raiders, Rabbitohs, Storm and Sea Eagles for the win.

Investing $2500 at $19, his account was flush at the conclusion of the weekend after a $47,500 collect.

BACKING THE FUTURE

Ladbrokeshave declared the Roosters slump over and the best yet to come from the tri-colours.

The reigning premiers assumed outright favouritism yet again after a week sharing the top line of betting with Melbourne.

The Storm, despite a 20-point win over the Titans with all bar one of their Origin players missing, eased in the market.

Cronulla and Newcastle also continue to drift like Tom Hanks in Castaway, after horror months of football for both clubs.
