Moody On: Mystic Journey
If there is one horse that I am looking forward to seeing in action during the 2019 Spring Racing Carnival, it is the mighty filly from Tasmania Mystic Journey.
She did a simply tremendous job during her Autumn campaign and she kept improving each time that she was seen at the races.
She is a street fighter and a gusty little thing, so it is no surprise that the Australian racing public have taken to her so quickly.
The way that she dismantled what was a fairly strong Australian Guineas field was outstanding and she topped if off when she beat the older horses, like Alizee and Hartnell, in the All-Star Mile.
That sets her up perfectly for her Spring Racing Carnival campaign.
The absence of Winx leaves a huge space in the market and that means that there are trainers right around the country that now believe they have a horse good enough to be the star of the Spring, but things really do look good for Mystic Journey.
The Autumn Sun has been retired to stud and it looks as though Arcadia Queen will spend her entire campaign in Sydney after being transferred to the care of Chris Waller.
That leaves Mystic Journey as the standout of the proven performers and, in my opinion, she is deserving favourite in Ladbrokes Cox Plate betting.
We probably are yet to see the horses that will emerge as her major dangers in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.
This could be an outstanding crop of three-year-olds and, in the absence of Winx, the international cohort might be the strongest that we have seen for some time.
Whatever happens this Spring, Mystic Journey has already taken connections on the ride of a lifetime and she owes them absolutely nothing.
I can’t wait to see Mystic Journey back in action and I think that we are in for a Spring for the ages!
