Race 1 - 12:31pm

Cornerstone Stud Passion Breeds Success Handicap (1600m)

Going Gaga failed to fire at Murray Bridge last weekend and he is a much better horse than that performance suggests. His win before that at Morphettville was excellent and on his best form he does have an edge over the rest of this field. Egyptian Gold is coming off a win on the Synthetic surface at Ballarat and I am more than willing to take him on at his current price.

Join Team RBR Handicap (2028m)

It has been a while between race wins for Up ‘N’ Rolling, but he is well-placed to return to winning form in this contest. The race wasn’t run to suit him at Morphettville last start and he ran the fastest closing 1000 metres, 800 metres, 600 metres, 400 metres and 200 metres of the race. This field is no tougher and he is well and truly over the odds at his current quote of $7.

Let’s Make SA Racing Great Again Handicap (1200m)

Social Spin is one of the most exciting horses racing at Morphettville this afternoon and I think that he can make a winning return to the races. He recorded a couple of impressive wins at Flemington and Caulfield during his Autumn campaign and he wasn’t disgraced behind Hawkshot in the Autumn Stakes. I think that he has a class edge over the rest of this field and if he brings anything like his best form he will prove tough to beat.

Race 4 - 2:21pm

Mill Park Stud Maiden Plate (1100m)

Defiant Dancer was well-backed on debut when he chased home Li’l Kontra at Morphettville and he ran some of the quickest closing sectionals of the day in doing so. He should take good improvement from that experience and, from what we have seen, he does look to have more upside than any other runner in this field.

Race 5 - 3:01pm

South Australian Thoroughbred Breeders Members Handicap (1050m)

There have been plenty of scratchings in this race and that has taken some of the value out of this market, but Schilldora will still prove very tough to beat. She has recorded four wins from her eight race starts and she really showed her quality when she finished fourth behind Embrace Me at Group 3 level in the Typhoon Tracy Stakes at The Valley. That gives her a huge class edge over the rest of this field and trainer Richard Jolly seems very optimistic about her winning chances.

Race 6 - 3:41pm

Sleepy’s 70th Birthday Handicap (1800m)

This is probably the toughest betting race of the day and there are a stack of winning chances. Picture Me Rolling’s bare form doesn’t look particularly good, but there was some merit in her last start run at Morphettville. The drop back to 1800 metres, she is unbeaten over this track and distance, and she can settle closer to the speed than she did last start. The $7.50 appeals in a very open race.

Race 7 - 4:21pm

Group 3 Spring Stakes (1200m)

This is an outstanding edition of the Spring Stakes and I think that it will prove a strong form reference for the Melbourne Spring Racing Carnival. Scales Of Justice is a genuine Group 1 performer when he is at his best and he could hardly have been more impressive in the Bletchingly Stakes. He the best last 1000m, 800m, and 400m splits of the day at Caulfield and the scary thing for his rivals is that he still has the scope to improve on that performance. Dean Yendall will be able to settle him just off them in the early stages of this race and he should prove far too good for his rivals late.

Race 8 - 5:00pm

Sir Prancealot At Cornerstone Stud Handicap (1200m)

There has been a strong betting move for Outlandos and he is into $2.25, but I am happy to take him on at the current price. I don’t think that there is as big a gap between him and Whenever Wherever as the market suggests. Whenever Wherever was only narrowly denied at Bendigo last start and last time he was sent to Adelaide he was only narrowly denied by Bayou. The Pins gelding hasn’t produced a poor performance during his racing career to date and there is no doubt that he will be thereabouts in the concluding stages.
