2019 Cairns Amateurs Day 1 Preview

Race 1 - 1:22pm

QTIS 3yo Maiden Handicap (950m)

The on-course betting will be the best guide for the 3yo Maiden on the first day of the two day Cairns Amateurs Carnival. High profile visiting jockey Robert Thompson takes the ride on first starter Cupid’s Son and the Janel Ryan trained gelding has to be given plenty of respect. Past Ready and Regal Heart are both facing the starter for the first time with the blinkers going on both of them while Mount Costa has the benefit of two race starts..

Race 2 - 1:57pm

Maiden Handicap (1250m)

The Grove has been knocking on the door with three placings from his last three starts but still needs plenty of luck here to breakthrough for his maiden win after drawing a wide gate. Robert Thompson rides Aritomo who wasn’t that far away last start even though finishing ninth and can do better here. King’s Knight hasn’t been far off the mark of late and the market will be a good guide for Buoyancy.
