A field of eleven fillies is set to line up for the 2019 Group 1 Thousand Guineas over 1600m at Caulfield on Saturday.

The 2019 Blue Diamond Stakes winner Lyre will carry the famous Godolphin royal blue colours and is the only Group 1 winner in the $1m Thousand Guineas and the Anthony Freedman trained filly will lead the field out with Mark Zahra in the saddle and will be joined by stablemate Southbank.

The James Cummings trained Tenley and Flit will also sport the royal blue colours while Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young will also saddle up two fillies in Acting and I Am Eloquent.

We have analysed all eleven runners and our complete 2019 Thousand Guineas tips can be found below.

Lyre

Lyre was among the top echelon of two year olds during the 2019 Autumn Racing Carnival with a win in the Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m) at Caulfield plus a third in the Group 1 Golden Slipper Stakes (1200m) at Rosehill. The Anthony Freedman trained filly made up plenty of ground from the back at her third run in this campaign when seventh in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield on September 29. Like all of the fillies, Lyre will be stepping up to the 1600m for the first time but found the line okay over the 1400m. One of the main chances

Tenley

Tenley showed plenty of ability during her two year old days but has had mixed form at her three runs back in the lead up to the Thousand Guineas. The James Cummings trained filly was a handy third second up in the Listed Exford Plate over 1400m at Flemington on September 14 but was then always near the tail of the field when eleventh in the Group 2 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield. Facing similar opposition here.

Flit

The James Cummings trained Flit was way out of luck at her second run back this prep and was caught in a traffic jam after settling near the tail of the field and ended up in ninth place in the Group 3 Thousand Guineas Prelude over 1400m at Caulfield. Flit went to the line under double wraps and with a clear run this week will be hard to hold out.

Acting

Actinng is the winner of her last three starts and lowered the colours of some of the more fancied runners with an all the way win in the Thousand Guineas Prelude. The Trent Busuttin and Natalie Young trained filly has continued to improve all through her preparation and if Stephen Baster can get his own way in front again, Acting will be hard to run down.

I Am Eloquent

I Am Eloquent is the winner of her last two starts in weaker company than this. The I Am Invincible filly steps up the Thousand Guineas on the back of a win in the Listed Jim Maloney Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on September 21. A filly still on the improve.

St Edward’s Crown

St Edward’s Crown has been listed as one of the outsiders of the field at Ladbrokes.com.au and was always about the same last start when eighth in the Thousand Guineas Prelude.

Missile Mantra

The Peter and Paul Snowden trained Missile Mantra made up good ground from the back when she finished just behind the placegetters for a fifth in the Thousand Guineas Prelude. Will be running on again and will strip as one of the main players in the Thousand Guineas with the blinkers on for the first time.

Southbank

Southbank handled her first trip to the city with a handy fifth in the Thousand Guineas Prelude. Southbank is a stablemate mate of the Anthony Freedman trained Lyre and can run another big race against a similar field.

Barbie’s Fox

Barbie’s Fox was sent out at the huge odds of $61 last start but beat most of the top fancies home when third to Acting in the Thousand Guineas Prelude. The Louise Bonella trained Barnie’s Fox was given a great ride by Damien Oliver and he will give the filly the run of the race again from the inside gate and is not the worst.

Emeralds

Sydney filly Emeralds was beaten less than three lenghts when a second up fourth to subsequent Group 1 Flight Stakes winner Funstar in the Group 2 Tea Rose Stakes at Randwick on September 21. Another filly on the improve who could figure amongst the prizemoney.

Affair To Remember

The lightly raced Affair To Remember broke through for her maiden win at her second race start at Geelong and at her only other start finished seventh in the Listed Jim Maloney Stakes over 1400m at Caulfield on September 21. Has to show a ton of improvement to be a threat here.
