Peter Moody’s 2019 Melbourne Cup Tips

Champion trainer and Ladbrokes ambassador Peter Moody may never have won the Melbourne Cup as a trainer, but he still knows more about ‘the race that stops a nation’ than most.

Moody has analysed the Melbourne Cup field and his complete 2019 Melbourne Cup tips are now available.

Winner – Vow And Declare

Vow And Declare has had an ideal preparation for the Melbourne Cup and looks like the horse that is weighted to win the race. His run in the Caulfield Cup was an excellent Melbourne Cup trial and this has always been his main target. The step-up to 3200 metres shouldn’t be an issue for him and he might be the best out-and-out stayer we have produced for a number of years.

2nd – Mirage Dancer

I really liked his run in the Caulfield Cup and he gives the impression that the step-up to 3200 metres will be ideal for him. He never runs a bad race and it would surprise if he missed the top five. I have no idea why there is still $34 available and there is no doubt that he is the best value runner in 2019 Melbourne Cup betting.

3rd – Prince Of Arran

Prince Of Arran has an excellent record in Australia and there was plenty of merit in his Geelong Cup win. He probably should have won first-up in the Ladbrokes Herbert Power Stakes and he is still yet to produce a poor performance in this country. Michael Walker clearly has a great relationship with this horse and there is no reason that he can’t be a factor in the finish for the second year in a row.

4th – Magic Wand

Magic Wand was left a little bit flat-footed when they sprinted in the Ladbrokes Cox Plate and the step-up in trip could suit. The 3200 metres is something of an unknown for her, but based on her Melbourne Cup effort it might be what she is looking for. She doesn’t win out of turn, but she has placed at Group 1 level on numerous occasions and could surprise at juicy Melbourne Cup odds.
