Champion trainer and Ladbrokes ambassador Peter Moody has had more success in the C.F. Orr Stakes than most – he has previously won the race on five occasions – and clearly knows what attributes are required to win the Group 1 event.
Moody has analysed the C.F. Orr Stakes field and his complete 2020 C.F. Orr Stakes tips are now available.
Winner – Scales Of Justice
This really does look like the ideal race for Scales Of Justice.
His first-up win in the Australia Stakes was classy and he should only improve on that performance.
The step-up to 1400 metres is ideal for him and he beat a similar field to win the Memsie Stakes, over the same track and distance, in the Spring.
The Not A Single Doubt gelding got all the favours in the run in the Australia Stakes, but he maps to get a very similar run in the C.F. Orr Stakes.
Lindsey Smith has clearly targeted this race with his star galloper and he very rarely misses when that is the case.
2nd – Hey Doc
Hey Doc was only narrowly denied by Scales Of Justice in the Australia Stakes and there is no reason that he won’t be in the mix again in the C.F. Orr Stakes.
He should take good benefit from his first-up run and the step-up to 1400 metres could prove ideal for him at this stage of his career.
Luke Currie will take him straight to the front in the early stages of this contest and it will take a good horse to run him down.
3rd – Fierce Impact
Fierce Impact could hardly have been more impressive during the 2019 Spring Racing Carnival.
He claimed a maiden Group 1 victory in the Toorak Handicap and he backed that up with a fast-finishing win in the Kennedy Cantala.
It will be interesting to see how he handles the step-up in quality to weight-for-age company, but there is no doubt that he still has serious upside.
4th – Night’s Watch
Night’s Watch had no luck in running whatsoever throughout his 2019 Spring Racing Carnival campaign.
He was a good thing beaten over this course and distance at Caulfield first-up and he finished a gallant second behind Fierce Impact in the Toorak Handicap.
I think that he can run a big race at juicy odds in the C.F. Orr Stakes.
