Doomben Day Preview Saturday 11th April


Race 1 - 11:43am

QTIS 2yo Maiden Plate (1110m)

The two year old Maiden field is made up mainly of first starters so the betting will be the best guide. Batangas Entry heads to Doomben following a three lengths Deagon barrier trial win and appears to be one of the top hopes. Devil is also a recent barrier trial winner when he streeted his rivals by seven lengths at the Sunshine Coast. The Diamond is one the few juveniles that has been to the races and has the blinkers on following his debut third over 1200m at the Sunshine Coast on March 20 and Dash For Dreams has trialled on three occasions in preparation for his debut, his most recent saw him finish second in a Doomben trial on March 24.

Maiden Plate (1200m)

Musicmaker had his first start for trainer David Vandyke when second in a 1000m Sunshine Coast Maiden on March 20 and will strip fitter with that race experience under her belt and gets her chance to break through for her Maiden win here. Flash Patch is also fitter for one run back when second in a 1200m Eagle Farm Maiden and is also one of the main chances. Dafeenah is closing in a win with placings at her last two starts at the Sunshine Coast and Rozeira resumes after winning a recent Deagon barrier trial.

Race 3 - 12:53pm

QTIS 2yo Handicap (1200m)

Minjee arrived in time for a nose win in a 1200m 2yo Handicap at Eagle Farm on March 28 and is one of the main chances again. Snappy Reply was beaten a nose by Minjee at Eagle Farm and the pair are set for another close battle under similar weight conditions. Charlie Sphene scored on debut at the Gold Coast and gets his chance in slightly harder company and Dusty Tycoon has two recent barrier trial wins at Doomben and Deagon under her belt for her return to the race track.

Race 4 - 1:28pm

BenchMark 78 Handicap (1630m)

Dual acceptor Galtero has been placed at his last two starts at Eagle Farm over 1600m and 1845m and will get the run of the race from the inside gate. Galtero is a two times winner over this course and distance and is also an acceptor for the 2030m BenchMark 72 Handicap. Star Of Michelin was rewarded for some consistent form with a last start three lengths win in a 1600m 3yo Handicap at Eagle Farm but is lining up against the older horses here. Mymming has finished third at her two runs back from a spell at the Sunshine Coast and is ready to produce her best and Motion Granted won at the Gold Coast two starts back on a heavy track and was then beaten less than a length when fifth in a 1350m Doomben BenchMark 78 Handicap on March 28.

Race 5 - 2:03pm

BenchMark 72 Handicap (2030m)

Galtero carries the top weight here and if the dual acceptor runs in this race will also be hard to beat. Apprentice Adin Thompson’s 2kg claim will offer Galtero some weight relief and the gelding is ready to step up to the 2030m following his last start second in an 1845m Eagle Farm BenchMark 80 Handicap on March 21. Al Jood is the winner of two of his last three starts and she is stepping up in grade following her win in an 1800m Sunshine Coast BenchMark 70 Handicap on April 1. Lady Solerno has been racing consistently with placings at her last three starts at the Sunshine Coast and Doomben and looks suited here and Populist finished third last start in a 2200m Doomben BenchMarkl 70 Handicap.

Race 6 - 2:42pm

QTIS 3yo Handicap (1350m)

Stampe has been ultra-consistent of late with a win and three placings from his last four starts, his latest a third in a 1350m Doomben 3yo Handicap on March 28 and gets his chance to find the winner’s stall with some weight relief with apprentice Justin Huxtable’s 2kg claim. Ballistic Boy was a winner two starts back over 1400m at Eagle Farm before finishing fourth over 1350m in a Doomben 3yo Handicap and is always thereabouts. Jeweliana can do better than her last start ninth in a 1200m Doomben 3yo Handicap and Ziemba is fitter for one run back from a break.

Class 6 Plate (1350m)

Shalwa was a last start winner in a 1400m Eagle Farm Handicap and is one of the main chances again with apprentice Adin Thompson’s 2kg claim coming in handy. Stampe is also an acceptor in the 1350m 3yo Handicap and is also a chance here if connections decide to take on the older horses. Park Chinois is fitter for a first up second in a 1400m Eagle Farm Class 6 and Tokoriki Lad has been placed twice from his last three starts.

Open Handicap (1200m)

Baccarat Baby was tested in Group 1 company during the 2019 Melbourne Spring Carnival when fifth in the Empire Rose Stakes over 1600m at Flemington. Baccarat Baby is resuming and has won first up in the past and has won over this course and distance. Tambo’s Mate won three and was placed three times from his last six starts before a break and is also resuming with good first up form. Mishani Hustler has won first up in the past and is having his first run back from a break and Invincible Al wasn’t that far away last start when third in a 1200m Eagle Farm Handicap.

Race 9 - 4:43pm

BenchMark 78 Handicap (1200m)

All Important is resuming and will be hard to beat from the inside gate and has won over this course and distance. I’ve Gotta Nel has been thereabouts of late with three fourth placings and can be in the mix again. Desert Man is ready to produce his best with two runs under his belt and Fasano is stepping up in class after winning a 1200m 0 – 70 Handicap at Eagle Farm on March 25.
