Race 1 - 12:25pm

Take It To The Neds Level Handicap (1200m)

This is a difficult way to start the day with a lot of young horses with mixed form coming into the race. There are a few at the top that are being asked to carry some weight so I’m steering clear of those and instead recommending a small play on a first starter. Machinate from the Corstens stable is a well bred filly out of a mare that was an early learner herself and was placed at Group level.

Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (1100m)

I like the fact that the three year old filly Acting is stepping back out to the sprinting distance as I think she is much better suited. She will appreciate the step back in class as well and Craig Williams can get her to the front from barrier seven where she will be tough to run down.

Race 3 - 1:35pm

Neds Extra Head Handicap (1400m)

It took Zousonic seven goes to break through for her maiden win however she did so in dominant fashion at Sandown two back to win by almost three lengths. She came from last that day and she again came from the tail of the field in the Bendigo Guineas to just miss last start. I would like to see Jamie Kah be a little more positive on the talented filly from barrier four without taking away her sprint.

Race 4 - 2:10pm

Neds Toolbox Handicap (1100m)

Lagerfeld has been well beaten at his last two in much better grade than this and the 1100m could be is his ideal distance. Thomas Stockdale has been riding well on these top weights and he will claim 3kgs here. He can take a sit just behind a hot speed and he is a good each way proposition at a nice price.

Not Enough Effort was another that represented good value in this race at around the $10 mark. Teodore Nugent is another claiming apprentice that has been riding well and he too can sit up on the pace, a spot that has been of a big advantage in recent weeks at Caulfield.

Race 5 - 2:50pm

Listed Neds Galilee Series Final (2400m)

Coin Collector has put in two really good runs at his last two starts. He was doing his best work late when just missing behind Skiddaw at Bendigo and it doesn’t seem as if the step up in trip will be any issue.

Race 6 - 3:35pm

Neds Bet Back Handicap (1200m)

Milwaukee is first up here over the 1200m and he represents good value. He has drawn well in barrier 3 and will settle somewhere on the speed which has been a big advantage at Caulfield in recent weeks. Thomas Stockdale gets the ride with a claim and he will be in this contest for a long way.

Bella Martini is another that has drawn really well and maps to get a nice run in transit just off the speed in this race. She is a Group performed mare who can produce a high rating performance on her day.

Group 3 Le Pine Funerals Easter Cup (2000m)

Scarlet Dream was huge when resuming here at Caulfield when she peeled her way through the field to narrowly miss. She was dead last heading around the turn and she showed her class to make up a lot of ground. She is a mare with big upside and there will be a fair amount of speed on up front in this race which will allow her to have the last crack at them.

Race 8 - 4:50pm

Group 3 Elvis Thurgood 40th Anniversary Cup (1400m)

There are many at the top of the order in this race that are very poorly weighted and Spanish Whisper is not one of them. She is a Group 2 winner at this distance and she will settle somewhere on the speed. She is overs at that price.

Bam’s On Fire has been racing very consistently of late without winning including running second to Mamzelle Tess at Group 2 level last start by half a length. She is a very fit mare in form and she will go close again here. Drawn well.

Race 9 - 5:25pm

Neds Price Boost Handicap (1600m)

A number of the fancied runners in the last of the day have either drawn badly or get right back in the field. There doesn’t seem to be a lot of pace in the race and my speed map has Masculino taking up the running. He has won two from five first up over his career and I think he can run a cheeky race at nice odds for us to finish the day. The punters agree as he has been well supported in early betting.
