Our 2020 Living Legends Day Preview is now available and we are set for an exciting day of racing at Flemington on Saturday.
We have analysed every race on the card and our complete 2020 Living Legends Day tips can be found below.
Race 1 - 11:40am
Rogan Josh Stayers Trophy (2500m)
Shepard was the first runner and winner back for trainer Peter Moody and he can make it two in a row in the first at Flemington on Saturday.
The Sea The Moon gelding hasn’t run a bad race since
debuting last year and has improved with each of his three starts back from a
spell, culminating in his dominant win at Ballarat a couple of weeks ago.
The rise in trip appears and though it will suit, and Luke
Nolen retains the ride

Race 2 - 12:15pm
Tom Melbourne Trophy (1400m)
Khoekhoe couldn’t have been more impressive in The Showdown
a few weeks ago and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again
on Saturday.
The Turffontein colt has improved in each of his three career
starts so far; finishing towards the tail of the field at Ballarat on debut
before breaking his maiden at Echuca and ultimately winning The Showdown last
time out.
Fitter fourth-up, he’ll be hard to beat again.

Race 3 - 12:50pm
Redkirk Warrior Trophy (1400m)
Wild Vixen will take winning form into the third at
Flemington on Saturday and looks well placed to make it two in a row.
The Foxwedge filly mustered a smart turn of foot to fill the
minors behind Street Icon at Ladbrokes Park when resuming and then proved far
too good for her rivals in a Listed race at Morphettville last time out.
This is a small drop in class from that race and she’ll only
be better for her second-up effort.

Race 4 - 1:30pm
Almandin Handicap (1100m)
Montenegro Man hasn’t been seen at the races since February,
but he was a strong and consistent performer last time in, races well fresh and
typically keeps his best performances for the straight at HQ.
The Zoustar gelding finished worse than second only once in
four starts last preparation, beating the likes of Bam’s On Fire and
Symphonette at Caulfield most notably.
This looms as a reasonably open contest and I’ll be happy to
have something on each-way.

Race 5 - 2:05pm
Efficient Handicap (2000m)
Miyake was scratched from the South Australian Derby field a couple of weeks ago and while it would have taken an enormous effort to figure in that race, this does look more than within his abilities.
The Deep Impact colt stamped himself as one to watch last
time in and while he did need the run when first-up from a spell at Warwick Farm,
he responded with a dominant win over 1900m at Canterbury last time out.
The small rise in trip will suit and with even luck, he can
fight out the finish at around the 10 mark.

Race 6 - 2:45pm
Listed Straight Six (1200m)
The Straight Six is always an exciting contest and a
fittingly strong field of sprinters has been taken for Saturday’s edition.
Milwaukee has improved for his three starts this time and
has a fitness edge over several key rivals.
The Mike Moroney-trained gelding has excellent form down the
straight and mustered a smart turn of foot to finish a head second behind Prezado
here last week.
The other runner that has caught my eye here is the resuming
Lord Von Costa. Lord Von Costa only had two starts last time in, but finished
second to Chicago Cub here before beating a classy field of sprinters last time
out.
He’s had the benefit of a couple of trials and looms as a
live chance at an each-way price.

Race 7 - 3:25pm
Brew's Anniversary Plate (1800m)
This is probably the most open race on Saturday’s Flemington
card and a horse like Nobu has genuine claims at a double-figure price.
The Chris Waller-trained gelding did take a few to get going
this time, but he tracked home well to finish third at Caulfield a fortnight
ago.
I like that Craig Williams has elected to stay in the saddle
of this horse and with even luck from out wide, he can return to winning form.

Race 8 - 4:05pm
Apache Cat Handicap (1600m)
After a long time between drinks, So Si Bon has now won two
races in succession and there is no reason why he can’t make it three at
Flemington on Saturday.
The So You Think gelding has been an enigma of Australian racing for virtually his entire career, but has started to pay back punters that have stayed loyal this campaign.
While he was probably outclassed in a couple of far harder
races early on, he has clearly found his niche in races like this one and I am
happy to be with him again.

Race 9 - 4:38pm
Living Legends Plate (1100m)
This is arguably the easiest race that Hilo has contested
since resuming at Randwick-Kensington and he won’t be offered a better opportunity
to win.
The Godolphin-trained three-year-old gave his rivals windburn
when first-up and has finished third in each of his three starts in the wake, including
a couple of Listed races.
He’s drawn the extremely outside but if the outside rail is
the place to be at the end of the day, it will only strengthen his chances.
