2020 Victory Stakes Preview

Facebooktwittermail

Our Victory Stakes Preview is now available and we are looking forward to the Group 2 event at Eagle Farm on Saturday.

A field of sixteen will line up in the $175,000 Group 2 over 1200m on the weekend with the winner being exempt from the ballot for The Stradbroke Handicap as well as escaping a penalty for the Group 1 sprint.

The James Cummings trained Kementari will lead the field out with the equal top weight of 58kg while Brisbane’ premier trainer Tony Gollan will saddle up two runners, Vega One and Outback Barbie.

We have analysed the entire field and our complete 2020 Victory Stakes tips can be found below!

Kementari

Former Group 1 Randwick Guineas (2018) winner Kementari has been struggling to rebuild his racetrack form after returning from an unsuccessful stint as a stallion prospect.

Kementari has two Group 3 placings to his credit since his return before a last start fifth in the Group 3 BRC Sprint over 1200m at Doomben.

Kementari needs to run an improved race if he is to be considered a chance in The Stradbroike Handicap.

Sesar

Sesar was always near the tail of the field at his first run back from a break when ninth of ten in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben and will find this no easier.

Tyzone

Tyzone is fitter for two runs back from a spell and was not beaten all that far last start when seventh in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben.

Has drawn the ousiude gate and it is not getting any easier here and is yet to win at Eagle Farm.

Tambo’s Mate

The connections of Tambo’s Mate don’t have to worry about him qualifying for The Stradbroke Handicap after he gained an exemption from the ballot with his win in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200) at Doomben last start.

Tambo’s Mate has drawn nicely at gate six and is one of the main players again.

Chapter And Verse

Chapter And Verse has had a freshen up since finishing fourth in the Listed Goldmarket (1300m) at the Gold Coast and is a winner over this course and distance.

Chapter And Verse is way down in the order of entry for The Stradbroke Handicap and needs to win the Victory Stakes to gain a spot in the Group 1 sprint.

Niccanova

Niccanova is having his first run back since finishing second in the Listed Sunshine Coast Cup (1400m) at the Sunshine Coast in January and while he has won first up in the past, his best recent form has been over longer journeys.

Victorem

Victorem failed to beat a runner home last start when tenth in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben and has to improve dramatically if he is to be a threat here.

Vega One

Vega One has already secured a spot in The Stradbroke Handicap, courtesy of his win in The Gateway (1400m) at Eagle Farm in December and the four year old has finished fourth at his two most recent runs this campaign.

Vega One made up good ground when fourth last start in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben and will appreciate the bigger Eagle Farm track this week and is one of the main contenders.

Signore Fox

Signore Fox has been well beaten at his two runs this time in, his latest an eighth in the Listed Takeover Target Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on May 9, and will find this tougher.

Deep Image

Deep Image put himself right in the picture with a last start nose second to Tambo’s Mate in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben and a repeat performance will see him give this a shake.

Winter Bride

Winter Bride’s best effort to date was a second in the Group 1 Sistema Railway (1200m) at Ellerslie in New Zealand in January while her latest outing saw her finish fourth in the Group 2 Sapphire Stakes (1200m) at Randwick on April 11.

She has plenty of ability and can figure in the finish.

Freddie Fox Trot

Freddie Fox Trot is the winner of his last two starts in weaker company at the Gold Coast and will find this a lot tougher.

Soxagon

Soxagon has returned from a spell in great order with two wins in Class 6 company at the Gold Coast and this will be his biggest test to date.

Outback Barbie

Outback Barbie will strip fitter for a first up third in the Group 3 BRC Sprint (1200m) at Doomben on May 9 and will get a nice run from barrier seven.

The mare is yet to win second up and has been unplaced from four runs at Eagle Farm.
