There is plenty of quality racing taking place at Caulfield this Saturday and we have run through every race on the card and our full Caulfield Preview for Saturday, 30th May can be found below.
Race 1 - 11:40am
Catanach's Jewellers Handicap (1100m)
Crystal Chief was huge on debut down the Flemington straight when she was narrowly denied by Divine Caprice.
She will be better for the run and has the benefit of getting around the bend at Caulfield from barrier two.
1 Unit Crystal Chief
Race 2 - 12:15pm
Super Box Race Day Hamper Handicap (1100m)
Broadwayandfourth showed her slick turn of foot when charging home from the tail of the field behind Debt’n’deficit last start at Flemington to finish sixth.
Before that she was beaten under a length by the smart Xilong at Morphettville and if she can continue to improve into just her ninth career start, she will go close.
1 Unit E/W Broadwayandfourth
Race 3 - 12:50pm
Neds Handicap (1200m)
Scottish Rogue put in two impressive performances earlier this prep at Flemington and Ballarat.
You can forget his last start where he simply didn’t handle the heavy track and if he can return to a semblance of his best form, he will go close in this event.
1 Unit E/W Scottish Rogue
Race 4 - 1:30pm
Nick Johnstone Real Estate Handicap (1600m)
Smoke Bomb broke through for his maiden win two back at his fifth career start over the 1400m at Cranbourne.
He then made it back to back wins at that track and distance when scoring by a widening five lengths last start.
He has drawn well for this contest and I can’t see why he can’t continue on his winning ways.
1 Unit Smoke Bomb
Race 5 - 2:05pm
Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (1200m)
The fifth event of the day is really tough and open contest and I recommend just a small play.
I have a high opinion of Dyslexic and she will appreciate the big step down in class for this.
Twitchy Frank is a mare that has been racing very consistently at a higher level and although she is being asked to carry the big weight, she will get some weight relief from apprentice Lewis German.
1/2 Unit Dyslexic
1/2 Unit Twitchy Frank
Race 6 - 2:45pm
Le Pine Funerals Handicap (1100m)
Again this is another open race and one where I am happy to back a couple at nice odds.
It is hard to ignore Inn Keeper’s record at the 1100m where he has won four times with three minor placings from eight starts.
He drops an incredible 7kgs on his last start second and is worth a small each way play.
The Centaurian is a horse with some ability and if he can return in the form he was in last prep, he can run a race fresh.
1/2 Unit E/W Inn Keeper
1/2 Unit The Centaurian
Race 7 - 3:25pm
Neds Money Back Odds Handicap (1600m)
Sikorsky strolled up to his rivals at Flemington last start and when Damien Oliver asked the four year old gelding for an effort, he responded really well.
He rises in class slightly for this race but if he can replicate his last start effort, he will prove very difficult to beat.
4 Units Sikorsky
Race 8 - 4:05pm
Vale Kevin O'Brien Handicap (1400m)
Jumbo Ozaki is yet to miss a place in his 10 career race starts and has managed four wins in that time.
He looks really well placed again in this race and Caulfield looks like it will suit him down to a tee.
2 Units Jumbo Ozaki
Race 9 - 4:38pm
Neds Toolbox Handicap (2000m)
Involoch has come up a ridiculous price in the last of the day. He was asked to carry a big weight at Warrnambool and things didn’t go to plan in running.
He is a Group 3 winner at this track and distance only two starts back and he is sensational value.
Forget So You Win’s last start when he clearly didn’t handle the heavy going. He is a far better horse than that and he finally gets out to a suitable distance.
He was beaten only one length when second in Group 3 company at this track and distance in August last year and he has drawn perfectly in barrier five.
2 Units E/W Involoch
1/2 Unit E/W So You Win
