Racing returns to Flemington on Saturday for another
talent-rich nine-race card.
Some of Melbourne’s best horses currently in work have been
confirmed for a start and vital Jockey Premiership points are on the line as we
fast wind towards the end of another season.
Race 1 - 11:35am
Jim Beam Hill Plate (1000m)
Only ten horses will step out, but Race 1 looms as one of
the better contests at Flemington on Saturday and some quality sprinters have
accepted.
Prezado keeps his best for the straight and will take plenty
of beating again.
The Ellerton & Zahra-trained gelding took a couple to
get going upon resuming this time but has won each of his last two starts in
impressive fashion, both down the straight.
This probably isn’t as hard as his last assignment and he
can complete the hat-trick.

Race 2 - 12:10pm
Schweppes Bagotville Trophy (1100m)
Divine Caprice has returned to the track in slick form this
time and can add another win to her impressive record.
The Sebring filly has so-far recorded two wins from three
starts back from a spell and was last seen winning over 1000m here at
Flemington a few weeks ago.
She’ll take further improvement for that effort, the form
out of that race has since been franked and she needs only even luck in running
to be in the finish again.

Race 3 - 12:45pm
Seppelt Wines Grand Flaneur Handicap (2000m)
Coolth has recorded two wins from as many career starts and
can continue his rise through the grades at Flemington.
The Dundeel gelding stamped himself as a horse to follow
with a dominant win on debut at Balaklava and was last seen winning a BM64 race
over a mile by close to three lengths.
This is harder, but he is a horse with a future.

Race 4 - 1:25pm
G.H Mumm Picnic At Flemington Trophy (1400m)
Holbien is yet to show his best form in two starts this
time, but there is no doubt that he has stripped fitter and I think that he has
claims on winning Race 4 on Saturday.
The five-year-old has been a good Saturday-grade horse for
Steven Richards throughout his career and he had excuses in the Straight Six a fortnight
ago as he was on the wrong part of the track and did run into some trouble.
Happy to give him another chance here at a price, in what is
a nice drop in class.

Race 5 - 2:05pm
Furphy Celebration Of Melbourne Handicap (1400m)
There is no doubt that this is one of the stronger races at
HQ on Saturday and there is a case to be made for several fighting their way
into the winner’s stall.
So You Swing will enjoy improvement into what will be her
second campaign start and interestingly, she hasn’t missed a place at this
point of her preparation previously.
The So You Think mare ended her last prep second behind Nudge
over 1700m here at Flemington and raced home respectively to finish fifth
behind the fit Viral and Kaplumpich last month.

Race 6 - 2:45pm
Grinders Coffee Carriage Paddock Plate (2520m)
It appears as though Masaff will get conditions to suit at
Flemington on Saturday and I’ll be happy to have something on.
The Irish import found form around some truly outstanding horses
in his homeland and has raced well in two appearances since arriving in
Australia, including a credible third behind Savaheat here last time out.
The rise in trip will be ideal, Craig Williams jumps aboard
and has options from the rails draw.

Race 7 - 3:25pm
Henry Byron Moore Handicap (1800m)
This is the standout race of the day and some of the country’s
current in-form horses will take their place at the 1800m start.
Sikorsky only just missed at Caulfield last week, but I think
that a return to the big Flemington track will suit and he looks to be in peak
order.
The other one that has caught my eye here is Aussie Nugget,
who was racing in strong and consistent form before returning a rare flat
effort last time out.
I am happy to forgive that run, and I will be backing both
horses.

Race 8 - 4pm
VRC Heritage Handicap (1400m)
Outrageous has been knocking on the door of a race win all
preparation and gets his chance fourth-up on Saturday.
The Team Hawkes runner filled the minors of a couple of
talent-rich sprints in Sydney before finishing a nose second to Man Of Peace in
the Octagonal Handicap last time out.
He has form here at Flemington and will carry just 56kgs.

Race 9 - 4:30pm
Bagot's Cowshed Handicap (1400m)
Typically, a wide-open contest will bring us home at HQ on
Saturday and at publish, we’re faced with $6.50 the field.
This is a big drop in class for South Australian Li’l Kontra and I think that she could prove over the odds at around the $20 mark.
Li’l Kontra has been a tough horse throughout her career and
was racing well earlier in her prep, but was probably just a touch out of her depth
when she finished down the order in The Goodwood last time out.
