On This Day in Sports May 26th

On This Day: June 6

They say we should use this time to learn something new – so we thought we’d offer up a history lesson free of charge!

We’re going to be recapping all the important sporting moments each and every day as we look to fill the void our beloved sports have left behind.

So if it’s AFL, NRL, Basketball, Cricket, Golf or even Wrestling, be sure to return each morning as we take a trip back through the history books to relive some of the great sporting moments On This Day.

2015 – 20 of the Best

Plenty happened on this day in tennis history, but perhaps nothing was more important than Serena Williams not only winning her third French Open title, but also her 20th Grand Slam singles event in three sets against Lucie Safarova.

2017 – Scoot, Scoot

Cincinnati Reds second baseman Scooter Gennett made a name for himself on this day in 2017, becoming only the 17th player in Major League history to hit four home runs in a single game.

Gennett went yard off St Louis Cardinals starter Adam Wainwright, before laying into bullpen arms John Gant and John Brebbia.

Gennett went on to finish the season with 27 home runs next to his name and a .295/.342/.531 slash line.

2018 – LeBron One Ups the GOAT

LeBron James recorded his 109th 30-point playoff game on this day two years ago, surpassing Michael Jordan’s previous record of 108.

The Cavs actually lost the game 110-102 to the Warriors, before going on to lose the series in disappointing fashion in a sweep two days later in a blowout Game 4 loss.
