2020 Austrian Grand Prix Preview

Formula 1 racing finally gets underway this weekend in Austria, bringing an end to a seven-month-long hiatus following the COVID-19 postponement.

With the cancellation of the Australian Grand Prix earlier in March, racing fans have had to wait since last years Abu Dhabi Grand Prix to celebrate Formula 1’s 70th season.

With high profile races like the Monaco Grand Prix and the Dutch Grand Prix called off entirely, this weekend is also a good chance for punters to open the season with a win.

We’ve previewed the entire race and offer our best selections in our 2020 Austrian Grand Prix Preview below.

Race Winner

Lewis Hamilton is the slight favourite in the market ahead of Sunday’s race, but with political matters occupying his mind off the track, it remains to be seen if he’s focused on the job at hand.

The six-time world champion could tie Michael Schumacher’s record of seven world titles if he takes out the crown this year, but also standing in his way is Max Verstappen.

The Dutchman won in memorable style in Austria last year and is now shooting for a hat-trick of victories at the Red Bull Ring.

Recent testing in Barcelona suggests Verstappen’s car can match that of Mercedes when it comes to speed, but as we’ve seen many times in the past, there are some reliability questions left to be answered.

Betting on Hamilton, even at the short price, has paid off big time in the past. With a few extra motivating factors to call on this weekend, you’d be foolish to back against him.

Tip: Back Lewis Hamilton to Win @ $2.80

Podium Finish

Ferrari has a real point to prove in this shortened year after finishing second to Mercedes in the constructors’ standings last season.

Offseason testing suggests Scuderia has adjusted their cornering speed, which bodes enormously well for Sebastian Vettel in his final year with the team.

The four-time world champion finished fourth in Austria last year and has never won this Grand Prix before. If the car manages to survive the 71 laps, he looks good value to finish somewhere on the podium.

Tip: Back Sebastian Vettel @ $3.25
