2020 Sir John Monash Stakes Day Preview

Race 1 - 11:50am

Neds Price Boost Multi Handicap (1400m)

The Felon was scratched from last week’s Flemington card for this easier task at Caulfield on Saturday.

I was very impressed when he ran a slick time on debut at Pakenham, scoring by a length and he can make it two from two in the opening event.

Race 2 - 12:25pm

Take It To The Neds Level (1100m)

Propelle returned to the races with a nice fourth at this track and distance behind the talented Alfa Oro two weeks ago.

She does not win out of turn but is a progressive type of mare with a lot of natural speed.

She has drawn well in barrier four with Craig Williams steering.

Race 3 - 1:00pm

Neds Bet Back Handicap (1400m)

Strategic Phil has been racing consistently at this level so far this prep including a narrow win over the 1400m on the heavy track and Sandown.

He should get a lovely run in transit from barrier three and will again go close.

Kaplumpich will have a tricky gate to overcome but is more than capable of performing at this grade of racing.

He has not won since November last year but is never far away.

Race 4 - 1:35pm

Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (1400m)

Morrissy has been excellent at his last two since having a freshen up .

He was a narrow winner over the talented Ashlor at The Valley before winning by 1.3 lengths last time out at Caulfield.

Criag Williams retains the ride and will steer from barrier nine and the son of Snitzel looks the one to beat.

Race 5 - 2:15pm

Neds Price Boost Handicap (1400m)

This is a very tough race to try and assess from a betting perspective.

Alburq is the one that has been racing at this level for some time now and although he hasn’t been winning, he has been competitive.

He is being asked to carry the big weight but is worth a small play.

Race 7 - 3:35pm

Group 3 Neds Sir John Monash Stakes (1100m)

Jungle Edge beat home Viridine by four lengths when they met over 1100m at Morphettville back in May.

They meet again here under very similar conditions and at the same weight.

Jungle Edge does require some sting out of the ground so any rain leading in will be beneficial and keep an eye on betting.

Race 8 - 4:10pm

Neds Money Back Odds Handicap (1100m)

Bless Her has strung together three wins on the trot and heads into this 3YO open race in good touch.

She was freshened up before winning at Sandown last time out on the heavy track and will take some improvement into this.

Elderflower was impressive in her first go in open class racing last time out at this track and will only benefit with the extra distance.

Race 9 - 4:43pm

Neds Toolbox Handicap (1700m)

Prince Ziggy is well over the odds in the final race of the day.

He is a very consistent type of horse having not been beaten further than 2.4 lengths at his previous seven starts before his first up effort last start.

He has two wins and a second from five second up runs and will benefit from a Will Price claim who will steer from barrier eight.
