2020 Styrian Grand Prix Preview

Race two of the new-look Formula 1 season gets underway on Sunday with the Red Bull Ring playing host to the Styrian Grand Prix.

Hot on the heels of Valterri Bottas’ exciting and chaotic win last weekend, Mercedes will be looking to further distance themselves from the rest of the pack by claiming a double in Austria.

We’ve previewed the entire race and offer our thoughts below.

Race Winner – Lewis Hamilton

Lewis Hamilton found himself at the back of the pack last week from the starting grid but did enormously well to make up ground.

The six-time world champ gave teammate Valterri Bottas a run for his money the whole way home, but a late collision with Alex Albon cost him a five second penalty and a spot on the podium.

Nevertheless, Mercedes clearly holds a distinct advantage in terms of their cars – as they always seem to. Bottas enjoyed a comfortable win in the end finishing two seconds clear of Charles Leclerc, so it’s impossible to back against the silver and green colours again on Sunday.

Considering Hamilton actually crossed the line in second last week, he’s good value here to bounce back.

Podium Finish – Alexander Albon @ $3.75

It was another miserable day for Red Bull last week as Max Verstappen’s car failed him early on before Alexander Albon got caught up in an accident with Lewis Hamilton.

Of the two drivers though, Albon showed real promise in the season-opener taking it to Hamilton on some very tight corners. He really deserved to finish on the podium in the end, but he should use that result as a source of motivation heading into Sunday.

Fastest Lap – Charles Leclerc @ $9.50

Bit of a hit and hope at long odds, but Charles Leclerc could be worth a very small shout to clock the fastest time.

The 22-year-old was easily the driver of the day last week where he weaved his way past Sergio Perez late to wind up second on the podium thanks to Hamilton’s penalty.

Ferrari are always tough to trust – case in point being Sebastian Vettel last week – but that is the kind of performance Leclerc can only improve on.
