After a 10 round season the Super Rugby Australia competition moves into the finals stage as we bid farewell to the Waratahs and Western Force.

Having finished the season on top of the table, the Brumbies have a week to recover ahead of hosting the final on September 19

In the Elimination Final this weekend, the Reds play in their first finals game since 2013 against the Rebels, who qualified in third place for their first ever Super Rugby finals appearance.

We’re previewing both games here starting with this weekend’s clash in Brisbane.

ELIMINATION FINAL

BrumbiesvsReds
Saturday 12 September, 7:15pm, Suncorp Stadium

There’s an argument to be made that the Reds are the most improved side over the course of Super Rugby Australia, growing from week to week and are the biggest threat to the Brumbies.

They put on a defensive masterclass holding out the Rebels three weeks ago at Suncorp in a 19-3 win before crushing the Force 57-5 and finishing the season with a 26-7 win over the Brumbies.

As for the Rebels, they needed a four point win against the Force in Newcastle last weekend and left it until the last possible minute to get home there.

These teams also played out a frustrating draw back in early July that finished 18-18 but the sides have gone in very different directions since them

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if this line drops to under a converted try but at its current number I’m happy to take the Reds to get the job done convincingly.

GRAND FINAL

Just one game remains in the 2020 Super Rugby Australia competition and it will be the two best sides of the calendar year facing off for the title in Canberra.

The Brumbies earned the right to host the decider after finishing on top of the table which also gave them last weekend off.

As for the Reds, they will have been happy to keep playing through and defeating the Rebels for their fourth straight victory.

We’ve got our match preview for the first Super Rugby Australia Grand Final below so read on to see who we are backing.

BrumbiesvsReds
Saturday 19 September, 7:15pm, GIO Stadium

If recent form is anything to go by, this game should be an absolute belter that goes right down to the wire.

This will be the fourth meeting between these two in 2020 with both games in Canberra being decided by a single score.

That includes the game in early August that was won 22-20 by the Brumbies on the last kick of the game.

Playing at home has been huge in this rivalry with the last away win coming from the Brumbies back in 2015.

The Reds have continued to improve steadily, outside of that one anomaly against the Waratahs in Sydney, and have really taken off in the last four games, which included a 26-7 win over the Brumbies in Brisbane.

With both sides primed to go and this having all the makings of a game that will go down to the wire the Reds represent the value in the head to head market.
