2016 – Prized Icon Wins Victoria Derby Adding to Cummings Dynasty
It was an historic win in the Victoria Derby for Prized Icon as trainer James Cummings became the fourth generation of his famous family to win the iconic race.
With Prized Icon soundly beaten the week previous in the Moonee Valley Vase, James Cummings was reluctant to run the horse, but the stallion took his place and secured a dominant win by 2 1/2 lengths.
Cummings great grandfather Jim won the Derby with Comic Court in 1948, his grandfather Bart won five and his Dad Anthony won with Fiveandahalfstar in 2012.
2003 – LeBron’s Debut
An 18-year-old by the name of LeBron James made his NBA debut for the Cleveland Cavailers on this day in 2003.
James finsihed with 25 points and 9 assists, shooting in 42 minutes as the Cavs went down to a loss at the Sacramento Kings.
Post-game, LeBron’s agent at the t ime, Aaron Goodwin said “I think that was LeBron’s statenent to the league that he’s here. He’s for real.”
