European Football Preview – December 5

As we move into football’s festive period, the fixtures come thick and fast which means plenty of opportunities to find value over Europe.

We are tripling down on the Bundesliga this week with some enticing matches on the fixture list while also keeping a close eye on a pair of matches in Spain.

Read on to see who we are backing this weekend.

FC Koln Vs Wolfsburg

Sunday 6 December, 1:30am, RheinEnergieStadion

Some tips seem too obvious but in this instance there is no need to overthink what the market for this fixture is giving us.

Koln might have sprung an upset over Dortmund last weekend but they are getting way too much respect with their current price.

Wolfsburg looked a bit frail at the back last weekend shipping three goals to Bremen but they more than made up for that scoring five for their third straight Bundesliga victory.

If this is the start of a Koln revival then I’m more than happy to be a week late on it, I’ll jump on the opportunity to back against them at over even money.

Sevilla Vs Real Madrid

Sunday 6 December, 2:15am, Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán

Just one point separates Sevilla and Real Madrid on the La Liga ladder with Zinedine Zidane and his side starting to feel the pressure with just one win from their last five matches in all competitions.

Sevilla on the other hand is flying (if you ignore their midweek Champions League loss to Chelsea), with three straight La Liga victories putting them in position to overtake Real with a win here.

It seems like Real is still getting a fair bit of respect in the market given their stature but that’s more than enough value for me to back against them in this one.

Back Sevilla to Win @ $2.55

Bayern Munich Vs RB Leipzig

Sunday 6 December, 4:30am, Allianz Arena

Perhaps the biggest club clash in all of Europe comes from the Bundesliga early Sunday morning with perennial champions Bayern taking on their nearest challengers, RB Leipzig.

The hosts are at a nearly unbackable $1.38 straight up, but you cannot rule out anything with Leipzig.

While the first thought might be to back a shootout, these sides have a history of cagey encounters.

Their last eight matches have finished with three or fewer goals and both teams can defend if they have to.

Back Bayern to Win & Under 3.5 Goals @ $3.00

Schalke Vs Bayer Leverkusen

Monday 7 December, 4:00am, Veltins Arena

Schalke’s horror season continued last weekend with a  4-1 loss, consigning them to at least one more week at the foot of the Bundesliga table.

It was a near perfect November for Leverkusen however, winning five matches and a scoreless draw with Hertha to cap it all off.

One thing we can all but guarantee here is that there will be goals in this fixture.

Schalke is averaging over three goals conceded per match while Leverkusen have conceded their fair share of goals during this unbeaten run.

Leverkusen to Win & Over 3.5 Goals @ $3.40

Alaves Vs Real Sociedad

Monday 7 December, 7:00am, Estadio Mendizorrotza

Sociedad were held by Villareal last weekend, reducing their lead on top of the La Liga table to just one point over Atletico Madrid.

Alaves presents a tricky task as they look to bounce back from a rough start to the season, however they are unbeaten in their last five matches.

With the Europa League forcing them to split their attention, Sociedad’s overall form has suffered, drawing their last three in all competitions however I can’t fully take them on here.

Instead I’ll jump on the fence and take the draw between two sides that will probably be happy to settle for a point.

Back the Draw @ $3.30
