European Football Preview – January 23

It’s another interesting weekend across European football leagues with title contenders being put to the test.

We’ve scoured the markets to find the best value plays from the continent and have settled on a mix of Bundesliga, La Liga and Seria A plays this weekend.

Check out who we are backing here.

Arminia Bielefeld Vs Frankfurt

Sunday 24 January, 1:30am, Schuco Arena

Frankfurt’s Bundesliga unbeaten run was extended to six during the week with a 2-2 draw against fellow mid table side Freiburg.

They are at great value to return to the winners circle against a Bielefeld side that is sitting dangerously close to the relegation zone.

Despite winning three of their last five matches, Bielefeld has not performed well against the top half of the Bundesliga all season and I can’t see them keeping up with a high scoring Frankfurt team.

Sevilla Vs Cadiz

Sunday 24 January, 2:15am, Estadio Ramón Sánchez Pizjuán

This might not be the best match to watch if you love open, attacking football, but it is shaping up as an interesting arm wrestle between these teams.

Cadiz is unbeaten in its last four, while Sevilla has lost just one match since December 9, and that was to league leaders Atletico Madrid.

Defensively they have been resolute, keeping seven clean sheets for one of the best goals allowed tallies in Spain.

Cadiz has scored just 17 La Liga goals all season so while the hosts might be short priced favourites, teaming that with a low scoring contest makes it a good value play.

Back Sevilla to Win & Under 2.5 Goals @ $2.80

Udinese Vs Inter Milan

Sunday 24 January, 4:00am, Dacia Arena

It’s all Milan in Serie A this season and Inter needs to pick up all three points against struggling Udinese to keep pace with their local rivals.

Their form has been a bit up and down over the past fortnight, winning just one of their last three in the league, however that victory came in convincing fashion against Juventus last weekend.

Working in their favour however is the fact Udinese’s form is consistently bad, winless since December 13th, a span of eight matches where they have picked up just four draws.

In that run, Udinese has kept just one clean sheet and conceded multiple goals on five occasions.

Inter should cruise home here.

AC Milan Vs Atalanta

Sunday 24 January, 4:00am, San Siro

It’s a huge test for the Serie A leaders, AC Milan as they face an Atalanta side that is unbeaten in their last 12 matches in all competitions.

That run has produced five draws however and there is a fairly straightforward way to get points off the sixth placed side.

When they have dropped points, it is because the opponents have been able to slow down their phenomenal attack and Milan have the capacity to do just that.

On the season, Milan have conceded just 19 goals in Serie A and have kept clean sheets in four of their last five matches in all competitions.

I’ll take the league leaders to execute their game plan to perfection and frustrate Atalanta to the tune of three points.

Atletico Madrid Vs Valencia

Monday 25 January, 7:00am, Wanda Metropolitano

Atletico is dominating La Liga at the moment and it comes down to a simple fact, they just don’t concede goals.

They sit seven points clear of Real Madrid and if you doubled their seven goals conceded tally, they would still be the best defensive team in Spain.

It’s shaping up as a season to remember for the “other” Madrid powerhouse and with four clean sheets in their last five league matches, there is one play to take for this match.
