European Football Preview – February 13

We are starting to enter crunch time across Europe’s major footballing leagues.

The title races, Champions League battles and relegation dogfights are well and truly alive across the continent and we have found the best value bets across the major leagues.

This weekend we’re double dipping into the Bundesliga as well as taking a look at La Liga, Ligue 1 and Serie A.

Read on to see who we are backing.

Stuttgart Vs Hertha Berlin

Sunday 14 February, 1:30am, Mercedes-Benz Arena

This is hardly the most entertaining match from Germany this weekend but there is value to be had in Stuttgart.

While the hosts form is not that great with four losses from their last five outings in all competitions, they at least have the comfort of knowing they are looking a lot better than Hertha’s recent record.

The visitors have won once in their last 10 matches in all competitions and have dropped their last four matches.

I’ll back Stuttgart to come away with all three points at home as the visitors cannot escape the relegation battle.

Back Stuttgart to Win @ $2.20

Napoli Vs Juventus

Sunday 14 February, 4:00am, Stadio Diego Armando Maradona

It has not been a season where Juventus have dominated all comers however the reigning Serie A champions have come into form since Christmas.

Napoli on the other hand have fallen away after looking like a one time title contender, with two defeats from their last three matches.

I’m not backing against a Juventus side that has lost just once since Christmas Day, especially when they are at over even money.

Back Juventus to Win @ $2.05

Barcelona Vs Alaves

Sunday 14 February, 7:00am, Camp Nou

Just like Juventus, Barcelona’s league form is starting to really pick up as they try to close the gap between themselves and Atletico Madrid.

Alaves is struggling, sitting just two points above the relegation zone and their victory over fellow battlers Valladolid gave them their first La Liga win since December 24.

This is two sides clearly travelling in opposite directions and I’ll back the hosts to storm to an early lead and go on with the job.

Back Barcelona Halftime/Fulltime @ $1.91

Lille Vs Brest

Monday 15 February, 3:00am, Stade Pierre-Mauroy

A six match Ligue 1 winning streak has seen Lille take a two point lead on top of the table.

Their margin for error is miniscule however with Lyon and PSG both ready to pounce on any slip up.

It seems unlikely that they will drop points against 12th placed Brest who have won their most recent two matches but just don’t seem like they will be able to match Lille’s stingy play.

The hosts have kept five consecutive clean sheets and have the second best defensive record in Ligue 1.

I’ll back that streak to continue here.

Wolfsburg Vs Borussia Monchengladbach

Monday 15 February, 4:00am, Volkswagen Arena

Wolfsburg’s five match winning streak (with five clean sheets no less) looks like it will be in for a huge test against Monchengladbach.

Sitting in third place, Wolfsburg has the Bundesliga’s second best defensive record with 19 goals conceded in their 20 matches so far.

Gladbach is a more than capable attack with 37 goals from their 20 league matches but their form has been up and down with two wins, two draws and a loss from their last five.

I’ll back the stingy backline to keep another clean sheet in a win.
