Hobartville Stakes Day will take place at Rosehill Gardens in Sydney on Saturday and nine races are on the program.

The rail will be set out six metres around the entire course and at publish, the track is rated in the Heavy (8) range.

Race 1 - 1pm AEDT

Chandon Handicap (1100m)

Andermatt hasn’t been seen at the races since May last year, but he was excellent during his debut prep and has claims on winning this race, at a nice price ($8 at publish).

The Snitzel colt was an easy winner on debut at Kembla Range before finishing second, just over half a length behind Anders at this track and distance.

He’s had the benefit of several trials in the lead up to his return and we can have a genuine each-way play at the price

Race 2 - 1:35pm AEDT

Highway Class 3 Handicap (1400m)

Can Do It will take good improvement into this week’s Highway race and is up to winning.

The No Nay Never gelding was a strong and consistency performer in the late stages of spring and into the summer, and returned from a freshen-up to fill the minors behind Champagne Vega at Canberra earlier this month.

He gets in well under the conditions and is drawn to receive every chance.

Race 3 - 2:10pm AEDT

NSW Jockeys Association Handicap (1400m)

Subedar will enjoy good improvement into his second campaign task at Rosehill on Saturday and is ready to win.

The Godolphin-trained gelding was a model of consistency last prep and returned to the races last month for a close-up second placing behind a fit and in-form All Time Legend.

I like that he has been back to the trials since that hit-out and with only 52kgs in tow, I think he’ll be very hard to hold out.

Group 2 Millie Fox Stakes (1300m)

It’s always a quality contest, but the Millie Fox Stakes could very well prove to be the race of the day at Rosehill on Saturday, with some of the country’s best mares engaged.

Subpoenaed typically always races well fresh and I she can certainly fight out the finish of this race.

The four-year-old daughter of Rip Van Winkle was a typically good horse during her spring campaign and won the Group 2 Golden Pendant here most notably.

She has had the benefit of a couple of trials and should be able to navigate to a nice position in transit from barrier 6 and under Hugh Bowman.

Race 5 - 3:20pm AEDT

Group 2 Silver Slipper Stakes (1100m)

Home Affairs looks to be a horse with plenty of ability and the Silver Slipper looks a nice race for him.

The I Am Invincible colt has made just one appearance at the races so far, but ran home well to finish a nose second in the Group 3 Canonbury Stakes.

There’s little doubt that he’ll enjoy plenty of improvement for that experience and he looks a great bet art around the $6 mark.

Listed Parramatta Cup (1900m)

A quality list of stayers has been taken for the Parramatta Cup, but Sacramento has returned to the races in outstanding form and he harbours a fitness edge over the majority of his key rivals.

Sacramento stripped fitter for a decent first-up effort for third behind Amica when resuming on Boxing Day and he simply hasn’t looked back, winning each of his two subsequent starts in impressive fashion.

He is drawn and weight well and is my best bet on the program.

Group 2 Hobartville Stakes (1400m)

Peltzer was a very impressive winner of the Eskimo Prince Stakes when resuming a fortnight ago, but he tends to grow an extra leg at Randwick and for that reason, I am happy to take him on as favourite in the Hobartville Stakes.

Kiwi star Aegon will make his Australian debut, but he too looks slightly vulnerable stepping back in trip and I am eager to watch what he does here before backing him.

I’m instead going to have a play at one at a price; the resuming Lion’s Roar ($14 at publish).

Lion’s Roar is yet to finish worse than second in five career starts and recorded consecutive wins in lesser races at Kembla Grange and Newcastle before finishing a close second in the Group 1 Spring Champion Stakes.

He has had the benefit of a couple of trials, has won on heavy going previously and looks a nice bit of value at current odds.

Race 8 - 5:15pm AEDT

Sharp Extensive It Handicap (1100m)

Spaceboy relishes racing on a rain-affected track and looms as a winning chance in the penultimate race on Hobartville Stakes Day.

The Deep Field gelding has been a great horse for the Portelli stable since making his debut and chased home a good one at Randwick a couple of weeks ago after missing the start.

With a cleaner jump and an easier run on pace, he’ll be tough to catch in something like this.

Race 9 - 5:55pm AEDT

Cleanaway Handicap (1400m)

Former French galloper Lackeen will make his debut for Godolphin in the last on Hobartville Stakes Day and looks well placed to win.

The Shamardal gelding has made just four appearances at the races, but won on debut for Andre Fabre and finished second at his next two appearances, including a Listed race.

He has trialled well in the lead-up to his first Australian career and will be ridden by James McDonald.
