European Football Preview – March 6

This weekend’s European action is headlined by some massive clashes that could decide league titles.

In Germany Bayern Munich takes on Borussia Dortmund while a Madrid Derby in Spain could have seismic implications on the races in both of those countries.

We have our five best bets from Europe right here so read on and find out who we are backing!

Freiburg Vs RB Leipzig

Sunday 7 March, 1:30am, Schwarzwald Stadion

It’s hard to find fault with Leipzig’s domestic form, winning their last seven matchers across the Bundesliga and DFB Pokal.

That run has them up to second and just two points behind Bayern Munich but the market is still not entirely sold on their chances here.

Overall their price seems just a bit too short considering Freiburg has been rather inconsistent with seven points from their last five in the league.

I’ll back Leipzig to win with at least two goals in the match for a bit of extra value.

Bayern Munich Vs Borussia Dortmund

Sunday 7 March, 4:30am, Allianz Arena

Germany’s biggest fixture has been a must watch encounter over the last few years with the last two meetings going the way of Bayern by the score of 3-2.

Perhaps both clubs will have one eye on the pending conclusion to the Champions League but neither side can afford to take this contest lightly.

Bayern is only just clear on top of the Bundesliga while Dortmund is languishing in fifth place, needing to gain ground to get back into the Champions League qualification positions.

If we have learned one thing from these sides, it’s that they are more than capable of scoring as many goals as they need to and I’ll back Bayern to come away with maximum points in a high scoring contest.

Juventus Vs Lazio

Sunday 7 March, 6:45am, Allianz Stadium

All things considered, Lazio is not the side Juventus would be hoping to see this weekend, with the Turin side winning just one of their last four matches against them.

Given they sit third on the ladder and now face the very real possibility of their almost decade long dynasty at the top of Serie A coming to an end this season, they cannot afford to take this fixture lightly.

Lazio will be equally desperate knowing their only chance of a return to the Champions League is through their Serie A position.

Juventus has been very vulnerable this season and I’ll give a desperate group of visitors a real chance to spring an upset here.

Osasuna Vs Barcelona

Sunday 7 March, 7:00am, Estadio El Sadar

Remember when Barcelona was allegedly a spent force and they were not going to compete for this year?

With their Champions League ambitions butchered by PSG, they now can focus solely on their La Liga campaign, where they could fling themselves back into the title race with a win here.

Heading into the weekend, they are five points behind Atletico Madrid, who plays third placed Real Madrid who are level on points with Barcelona.

When these sides faced off in November, Barcelona battered Osasuna 4-0 and we could be in for a similar result here.

Coming off an enthralling Copa Del Rey Semi Final comeback win over Sevilla, Barcelona will look to build on their momentum.

Back Barcelona to Win -1 Goal @ $2.40

Atletico Madrid Vs Real Madrid

Monday 8 March, 2:15am, Wanda Metrolpolitano

We were always going to include the Madrid Derby in our preview for the weekend.

Despite sitting on top of La Liga, Atletico goes into this one with a legitimate claim to underdog status, having lost or drawn their last nine league meetings with Real.

Not to mention Zinedine Zidane’s side will be fuming after seeing their five match winless run brought to a halt at home by Real Sociedad.

Making things worse, Atletico have gone 455 minutes of competitive football without scoring a goal against Real.

That goal was scored by Antoine Griezmann in February 2019 and it would be a perfect opportunity to break that duck here.

In part because of a desire to keep the title race interesting and in part because of history, I’ll back the visitors to come away with all three points here.

Back Real Madrid to Win @ $2.70
