Feature group racing may have moved north of the border but there is still a quality meeting taking place at Caulfield this Saturday afternoon.
We have nine races on the program and our full 2021 Galilee Series Final Day Preview can be read below.
Race 1 - 12:25pm
Neds Handicap (1200m)
The opening race of the day at Caulfield is a very tricky one from a betting perspective with not a lot of form to delve into.
I’m happy to leave this one from a betting point of view and wait for the next.
Race 2 - 1:00pm
Neds Filter Form Handicap (1200m)
Simply Optimistic returned a nice effort when resuming at Bendigo when getting within 1.5 lengths of the winner Sam’s Image.
The son of Encosta De Lago was doing his best work late and found the line strongly and will take plenty of benefit from the run.
He will appreciate both the step up in distance and 6kg drop in weight for this contest
2 Units Simply Optimistic
Race 3 - 1:35pm
Neds Same Race Multi Handicap (1100m)
Alburq has just the one career race win from 21 attempts but the four year old gelding is never far away in his races.
He comes into this race with seven weeks in between runs and has a top four finish in his last five in a row.
He looks really well placed in a race of this quality and we are getting a nice price to find out whether he can get the monkey off the back.
2 Units Alburq
Race 4 - 2:10pm
Benchamrk 84 Handicap (1100m)
Cordilla is a classy mare who has managed four wins from 10 career race starts.
She put the writing on the wall with a really impressive win at Cranbourne last October and although her two runs since have not been as competitive, she has had excuses.
The daughter of Shamus Award did not handle the ground at The Valley last time out and she will appreciate the step back in grade for this assignment.
1 Unit E/W Cordilla
Race 5 - 2:50pm
Hylands Race Colours Handicap (1400m)
Annavisto could not have been anymore impressive when winning the Bendigo Guineas by almost two lengths last time out.
She is a filly with a huge amount of upside who has now won three of six and this race does not look any harder than her last assignment.
Mark Zahra jumps aboard for Jamie Kah and will steer from barrier two.
3 Units Annavisto
Race 6 - 3:35pm
Listed Galilee Series Final (2400m)
Liqueuro is a young stayer on the rise who has now won three of his four starts after an excellent win in the St Leger Trial two weeks ago at Bendigo.
The son of Fiorente avoids the better staying three year old’s in Victoria but the truth is that he wouldn’t look out of place in the Australian Derby field in Sydney.
Jye McNeil should give the horse a nice run in transit from barrier six.
4 Units Liqueuro
Race 7 - 4:15pm
Chairman's Club Handicap (2400m)
Lord Belvedere finished seventh when resuming in the Mornington Cup where he attempted to round the field from near last on the turn.
This was an almost impossible task as the winner Mount Popa simply controlled the race from the front and gave nothing else a chance.
He worked his way to the line really well and will be fitter for the run and while he will again improve into his third run, the each way odds are very tempting should there be some pace on up front.
1 Unit E/W Lord Belvedere
Race 8 - 4:50pm
Benchmark 84 Handicap (2000m)
Grand Promenade is a horse with a fair amount of ability and he was excellent when resuming at Mornington.
He looked the winner rounding the turn but he found one fitter in Mohican Heights but he lost few admirers in defeat.
Fitter second up, he looks really well placed in this event.
3 Units Grand Promenade
Race 9 - 5:325pm
The Importer Handicap (1600m)
I’m not going to let Al Galayel go around at these sorts of odds without having something on.
The now seven year old gelding was last seen finishing 12th in the Ballarat Cup in November but he is a genuine 1600m in my opinion.
He has won four from nine at this distance and two from five first up.
