European Football Preview – April 10

It’s a massive weekend of football across Europe as every major league enters its home stretch.

There is no bigger match than El Clasico in Spain as Real Madrid and Barcelona both need wins to keep their La Liga title hopes alive.

In this weekend’s European Preview we are starting off in Germany before doubling down on Serie A and La Liga.

Read on and find out who we are backing.

Stuttgart Vs Borussia Dortmund

Sunday 11 April, 2:30am, Mercedes-Benz Arena

Dortmund is in a very tough position heading into this fixture, they currently sit in fifth place in the Bundesliga and are seven points adrift of a Champions League spot.

To make matters worse, they have a Champions League Quarter Final second leg coming up against Manchester City where they trail 2-1 on aggregate.

In short they cannot afford to rest players ahead of that massive match as their margin for error in the league is non-existent.

I’ll go to a tried and tested rule here and back the far more desperate side to make the most of that and come away with a victory.

Real Madrid Vs Barcelona

Sunday 11 April, 5:00am, Estadio Santiago Bernabeu

The La Liga title race is well and truly alive and this edition of El Clasico could end the hopes of one of these sides.

Spain’s traditional powerhouses are currently looking up at their proverbial third wheel Atletico Madrid who leads Barca and Real Madrid by one and three points respectively.

Defeat for either team would make it awfully hard to catch the other with the form both teams are in however there is one factor that just cannot be ignored.

Real’s midweek fixture came in the Champions League against Liverpool while Barcelona was in league action against Valladolid.

While Barca needed a very late goal to pick up the win, it’s hard not to expect at least some form of hangover from Real here.

Madrid has won the last two editions of El Clasico but I’m drawn towards Barca in this one just because of the slightly less strenuous build up.

Inter Milan Vs Cagliari

Sunday 11 April, 8:30pm, San Siro

Inter’s winning streak reached 10 after a midweek victory over Sassuolo and their lead on top of Serie A was extended to 11 points as well.

You would be foolish to expect anything less than another victory as they edge closer to ending Juventus’ monopoly on the Scudetto.

They comfortably dispatched of Cagliari in December and should have no problems doing that at home this weekend.

Villareal Vs Osasuna

Sunday 11 April, 10:00pm, Estadio de la Ceramica

There is a very encouraging stat line looking at Osasuna’s lead up form heading into this match, they have not conceded a goal in their last three competitive matches.

On the down side they have not scored in four competitive matches and have not scored more than two goals in a match since early February.

Villareal is in excellent form having won their last six matches in all competitions, keeping four clean sheets on that run as well.

$2.40 for Villareal to win and keep Osasuna out is a generous price so punters should jump on it.

Fiorentina Vs Atalanta

Monday 12 April, 4:45am, Stadio Artemio Franchi

With their Champions League campaign over after a 4-1 aggregate loss to Real Madrid, Atalanta can look to shore up its spot in Italy’s top four with a fourth straight Serie A victory in this fixture.

Currently possessing the league’s best attack, I like their chances of coming away with a comfortable win over a Fiorentina side that sits eight points clear of safety.

Atalanta straight up is at a good price if you want to be a bit conservative with your play in this match but the last seven matches between the teams have all seen three or more goals.

Look for the doubles market to find a bit more value here.
