Keep your eye on the red and the blue this week.
After putting up some big numbers last Sunday in the win over Geelong, Christian Petracca has inched a little closer to Dustin Martin in the Brownlow market as Melbourne’s fairytale start to the season continues.
Travis Boak makes up one of four players still in single digits after playing a huge part in last Friday’s win over Richmond, while Petracca’s teammate, Clayton Oliver, has also made up some big ground on our Brownlow Big Board.
With the market shifting and shaping, be sure to find out how we voted in our Round 4 edition of The Brownlow Bubble.
Our Round 4 Votes
Sydney Swans v Essendon
Port Adelaide v Richmond
Western Bulldogs v Brisbane Lions
St Kilda v West Coast Eagles
Gold Coast Suns v Carlton
Collingwood v GWS Giants
North Melbourne v Adelaide Crows
Melbourne v Geelong Cats
Fremantle v Hawthorn
Christian Petracca –
$11.00 – $8.00
It was around this time last year that Petracca really began to make his presence felt both on the field and in the Brownlow market.
Melbourne’s star midfielder found the Cats pretty easy prey last week at the ‘G finishing with a season-high 36 disposals whilst tacking on a couple of goals for good measure.
As a result, Petracca has leapfrogged his way into second on our Big Board behind Taylor Walker, and it wouldn’t be surprising if he takes the outright lead this weekend with another big game against Hawthorn.
Petracca dominated the Hawks last year to the tune of 29 disposals and a goal on his way to a pair of Brownlow votes. He does have his work cut out against teammate Clayton Oliver this year, but the $8.00 still remains great value.
Nat Fyfe – $13.00
Fyfe returned to the scene last week to play a big hand in Fremantle’s win over the Hawks.
The two-time Charlie winner has some work to do after missing Round 3, but he still picked up all three votes by our count with 31 disposals to remain a steady $13.00 shot in the market.
Missing six shots on goal wasn’t pretty, but kicking has never been Fyfe’s strong suit.
If he can clean up that part of his game, look out.
Jack Steele –
$19.00 – $15.00
Steele was a very popular smokey pick in Brownlow betting last year and the results did not disappoint.
The St Kilda mid polled 20 votes to finish third behind Lachie Neale and Travis Boak, and it appears he’s beginning to make another push towards the top after sneaking inside the Top 20 following 33 disposal and a goal last week against West Coast.
There’s still plenty of ground to be made up, but after polling three votes in Rounds 5, 7 and 8 last year, this is the man to watch over the coming month.
