Daily Racing Tips – Townsville Cup Day Special
Townsville - Race 5 2:58pm AEST
No. 14 Dawson Delight
Dawson Delight is yet to return a poor effort this prep, and she strikes another winnable contest on Townsville Cup Day.
Having recorded consecutive wins over the 1800m course in Mackay, the Real Saga mare was denied by He’s Wow Class last time out, but she meets that horse better at the weights this time.
I’m not concerned with the wide draw, and she’ll settle off the pace regardless and with clear passage, she’ll be coming late.
Townsville - Race 6 3:38pm AEST
No. 1 Namazu
Former Godolphin galloper Namazu has relished a move to North Queensland, and he shapes as the runner to beat in the Townsville Guineas.
He needed the run when he failed to quicken and finished second behind the talented Maetoso at Rockhampton first-up, but he returned to winning form in a 1500m handicap last month and franked that performance with another dominant win in Mackay.
Ryan Wiggins retains the ride, and the horse is drawn to receive every chance from barrier 3.
Townsville - Race 7 4:27pm AEST
No. 1 Hail Manhattan
He has been charged with carrying topweight, but Hail Manhattan was an impressive winner of the Mackay Cup last time, and he can make it two in a row in the Townsville Cup.
The Manhattan Rain gelding has improved for each of his four starts back this time, and he kept all of his best work for late when second in the Rockhampton Cup, before comfortably winning last time.
He has already beaten plenty of these rivals easily this prep and I can’t find a reason why he won’t be in the finish again.
Townsville - Race 8 5:10pm AEST
No. 3 Master Jamie
Master Jamie flashed late to finish second in the Rockhampton Newmarket last time out, and he can go one better in the Cleveland Bay.
The five-year-old son of Poet’s Voice has been set some lofty assignments this time, and while he didn’t measure up in races like the Victory Stakes and the Stradbroke Handicap in Brisbane, he has been far better returning to the country circuit.
I like that he has been freshened for this race and with even luck, he’ll be hard to hold out.
