2021 Caulfield Guineas Day Preview

One of the best days of the racing calendar year awaits us on Saturday at Caulfield and this is one for the purists.

The best three year olds in the country will line up over the mile in the feature race with a possible career as a stallion awaiting the winner.

Our full 2021 Caulfield Guineas Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 11:15am

Listed Debutant Stakes (1000m)

A field full of debutants head to the races for the first time in the opening race of the day at Caulfield on Saturday.

There is not a whole heap of exposed form to dissect and I’m therefor happy to sit and watch.

Race 2 - 11:50am

Listed Weekend Hussler (1400m)

So Si Bon returned to the races for the first time since the Stradbroke Handicap with a solid fourth at Sandown Park in the Testa Rossa and will only improve on that run here.

The now eight year old found career best form during his last prep and he usually takes a big step forward at his second run.

Race 3 - 12:25pm

Listed Village Stakes (1200m)

Loved the way War Correspondent found the line at The Valley when resuming and I have a fair amount of time for this galloper.

They were off and gone rounding the turn and while he was never a winning chance, his closing sectionals were good.

He is a consistent horse having placed in nine of 11 career starts and he represents good value in this event.

Race 4 - 1:00pm

Group 3 Thoroughbred Club Stakes (1200m)

Decent Raine is a filly with an incredible turn of foot and she showed that late on in piece at The Valley last start behind Seradess and Larkspur Run.

She will need the pace on up front throughout the run and I think she gets that in this event.

Currently around the $10 mark at the time of publish, she is a good each way bet.

Race 5 - 1:35pm

Group 2 Schillaci Stakes (1100m)

Savatoxl has an excellent winning strike rate with 16 wins from 30 starts and his best is very much good enough to win this race first up.

The six year old gelding has four wins from five attempts fresh and a recent barrier trial win at Ararat suggests he is ready to go.

The wide barrier isn’t a problem as he will go forward and Caulfield will suit him down to a tee.

Race 6 - 2:10pm

Group 1 Might And Power (2000m)

Once I saw Zaaki return to the races with a dominant win in the Tramway over 1400m, I thought he would go the spring unbeaten.

Nothing changed after he put away a small field in the Underwood and I see this run in the Might And Power Stakes as another barrier trial on his way through to the Ladbrokes Cox Plate.

He’s too short to bet so my advice is to sit back and watch in awe as we witness the next star of the turf.

Race 7 - 2:50pm

Group 3 Northwood Plume Stakes (1200m)

La Mexicana is a very consistent mare who has been placed in 10 of her 12 career starts.

She was wide when rounding the turn at Caulfield in the How Now Stakes but was strong right through the line to finish within a length of Bella Nipotina.

I’d like to see Damien Lane take a more forward sit on the mare from the draw on the inside and she looks a great each way bet in the Northwood Plume.

Race 8 - 3:30pm

Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m)

Anamoe returned to the races with an impressive last to first win in the Run To The Roses and while he was beaten in the Golden Rose, he was storming home late in the piece.

He has proven the best colt in the country throughout his career so far and the step up to 1600m in the Caulfield Guineas at this stage of his prep is perfect.

The tricky gate is not ideal but he will go back early anyway and he will show his class late.

Race 9 - 4:10pm

Group 1 Toorak Handicap (1600m)

Tofane comes into the Toorak Handicap off the back of two solid runs so far this prep and has drawn perfectly in barrier three.

She eyeballed Incentivise at the 250m in the Makybe Diva Stakes at Flemington last start and although she finished fourth, she was very tough right through the line.

She will carry 1kg more in this event but she will be ready to peak at this stage in her prep and her class will take her a long way.

Race 10 - 4:45pm

Group 2 Herbert Power Stakes (2400m)

I won’t tip you away from Floating Artist as he looks something special, but I’ve gone for some value in the last.

Defibrillate has been working toward a win with three really nice efforts so far this prep.

He was asked to come from a long way back at The Valley last start but I loved the way he ran right through the line.

Caulfield will suit him better in the Herbert Power Stakes and we are getting nice each way odds.
