Group 1 racing continues out west this Saturday with the running of the 2021 Winterbottom Stakes.

We’ve offered our thoughts and betting plays for the entire meeting and our full 2021 Winterbottom Stakes Day Preview can be found below.

Race 1 - 2:05pm

W.A Trophy (1000m)

Front Bar has managed four wins from her seven career race starts to date including both so far this prep.

The daughter of Sessions is being asked to carry the big weight but William Pike will steer from barrier six and she can kick start our day on a winning note.

Race 2 - 2:45pm

Mrs Mac's Handicap (1600m)

Cockney Crew comes out of the Group 3 R.J Peters Stakes last start where he was beaten less than half a length behind Kissonallforcheeks.

The grey gelding can mix his form at times but he represents good value in a race that lacks a whole heap of depth.

Race 3 - 3:25pm

Drummond Golf Handicap (1200m)

Triple Missile has been excellent in all three of his runs so far this prep and he was not beaten far behind Wilchino last time out.

He is the first emergency in the Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes later in the day but if he fails to gain a start there, he looks a good betting proposition in this event.

Race 4 - 4:05pm

Platinum Series Final (1400m)

Four year old mare Dais has been placed in all four of her race starts this prep including an impressive maiden win at Northam.

She was well beaten by Nowhiteflag two back who she meets 3kg better at the weights in this contest and the appointment of William Pike for the first time is only a benefit.

Race 5 - 4:45pm

Crown Towers Handicap (1400m)

Son Son won a very similar grade of race during his last prep at this track and distance carrying 59kg and will carry 58,5kg in this event with the apprentice’s claim.

He is two from two first up and a recent trial and early market support suggests he will run well.

Race 6 - 5:25pm

Regional Championship Final (1200m)

This is an incredibly difficult and open race with many winning chances and plenty of form lines to dissect.

Delago Dehero put together three placings in a row at Geraldton before breaking through for an impressive win in the Heats by 1.6 lengths.

He may just be peaking at the right time and is an good each way bet.

Race 7 - 6:05pm

Listed Japan Association Trophy (2100m)

I’m happy to look past the favourite Midnight Blue and back Dig Deep at the top of the weights.

He was well beaten in the Group 1 Railway Stakes but has been progressing well this prep and he should ready to peak at his fourth run in stepping up in distance.

Race 8 - 6:45pm

Group 1 Winterbottom Stakes (1200m)

It is going to be tough for these horses to turn the tables on the 2020 Winterbottom Stakes winner Elite Street.

He is the best sprinter in Western Australia with a sharp turn of foot late in his races and he has put together three wins in a row leading into his defence.

It will take a good one to beat him.

Race 9 - 7:20pm

Heineken 3 Handicap (1400m)

Five year old mare Beret could not have been much more impressive when scoring by almost three lengths at this track and distance last start in a pretty handy little race.

She has finished in the top two in all five of her runs this prep and I’m confident she can end our day on a winning note in the last.
