Daily Racing Tips – Thursday 6th January

Geelong - Race 5 2:30pm AEDT

No. 3 Fast Melody

Fast Melody made up enormous ground from last to first to win over the mile two back at Hamilton.

He stepped out over further in his latest at Geelong a fortnight ago where he finished only two lengths off impressive hat-trick winner, Swiss Hero.

The son of Sebring got away awkwardly that day and was wide without cover in transit, a run he can definitely improve on. He’s run no worse than fifth in his last six starts and we’re getting a nice price in a very open race.

No. 9 Hauteur

Hauteur broke her maiden two back at Hamilton where she was an impressive two-length winner over the same journey.

She failed to replicate that performance when sixth here at Geelong over further last month, but can be forgiven on that effort in what was a quickly run race.

The form from that contest also reads well with Gentleman Roy going on to win again, and Starden Lass going on to run a place at Flemington a few weeks ago. The blinkers go on for the first time and she’s capable of bouncing back.

Geelong - Race 7 3:30pm AEDT

No. 10 Paper Dragon

Paper Dragon finally broke through to win her maiden three weeks ago where she won by three-quarters of a length over a similar journey.

She’s clearly a filly of ability, and the daughter of Charm Spirit looks capable of going on with it now.

She gets in nice and light with the claim, and barrier 2 should afford her a lovely run behind the speed.

Geelong - Race 8 4:00pm AEDT

No. 7 Surecan

Surecan was disappointing first-up at Sundown when second-last over the same trip, but she was an impressive three-length winner at this stage of her campaign last time in work.

The Not A Single Doubt mare had a luckless run when fresh, copping some interference 200m out from the post.

She’s certainly capable of better, and she should be saving her best for late from the wide draw.
